Create A Software Catalog Entry – Managed Software
Created: 06 Jun 2011 | 4 comments
Abstract: The following process provides the necessary steps to create Software Catalog entries based upon software listed in the Managed Software list in the console. This software has already been discovered and Symantec provides some “out-of-the-box” framework for defining the catalog entry.
Environment: Symantec Management Platform 7.1 & Software Management Framework 7.1

If I can import a new package and it creates all the command lines and discovery rules, why would I want to go through it manually just because Symantec gave me the software icon?
Symantec provided the filter criteria for defining the software title, that is what you see in Managed Software after a fresh install. In future releases they will provide more details including app metering rules, detection rules etc. So it will save a lot more work using the pre-defined filters than creating them all on your own. For now you have to decide what the best process is to use for your environment, there is no one solution that fits for everyone.
