Data Remediation Part VI: Serial Number Comparisons

Nov 16, 2007 12:18 PM

The process follows these steps...

  • Inventory will collect serial number data (Inv_AeX_HW_Serial_Number).
  • A backend process called "Asset to Inventory Sync" will run creating the associated tables for the resource within the Asset solution
  • The information stored in the Inventory tables is then applied to the Asset tables (Inv_Serial_Number)
Once this is run, the information is applied only once. If anything changes for the Inventory tables it is not repopulated to the Asset side. This is by design and the previous posting should explain this. There is no way to fix this other than manually editing Asset information one resource at a time. However, the attached SQL scripts will perform the comparison for you to show you where inconsistencies exist between the Inventory serial number data and the Asset serial number data. You can then run the second part of the script which will make the Asset values NULL and allow you to re-run the sync process to apply the the newly reported inventory data into the asset tables so both reflect the same information. This process should also help cleanup any duplicates which be caused by this issue. As always your mileage may vary.
