Intel Gigabit Driver e1000e.ko for LinPE DS6.9 SP3 & SP4

Jun 11, 2010 12:07 PM

This download e1000e.ko  is for anyone needing the latest Intel Gigabit driver for DS6.9 (SP3/SP4) Linux automation  environments (kernel 2.6.27.7) It should support all Intel® 8254x-based PCI and PCI-X gigabit network adapters/connections, specifically  82563, 82566, 82567, 82571, 82572, 82573, 82574, and 82583.

This was compiled from version 1.1.19 of the Intel Adapter Driver released on the 27th April 2010, and this will hopefully work on bhawver's Dell Latitude E6410 and Dell Precision 4500 models!!

It this driver works for you, please add to this thread with your model so that others searching connect for an updated driver can find this download quickly.

Kind Regards,
Ian./

I've compiled a working 64-bit version of this e1000e driver that works with the E6410. Is there a place I should upload it? We had to make a 64-bit since our hp6930p only boots into 64-bit linux.

Hi Jimmy,

Just create a new download, specifying this is the driver for 64-bit linux. Use the 'Create'  option in the little toolbar at the top of the page when logged in to create new content. From here, select 'download' and off you go!

Hi Nancy,

Sorry for missing this -if you ever fear I've missed a post please just PM me. I get a lot of email notifications from connect, and sometimes I just miss some.

Is this still a problem? If so just private message me and we'll work it through pronto.

Kind Regards,

Hi Ian:
Thank you for the Linux Wait lesson.  How embarrassing!  I fit Altiris problems into an otherwise packed schedule.  Never noticed the wait choice at the bottom of the list.

I loaded the ahci.ko that you created. I got a PXE job to start but it failed with message:

Disk was not found.
(The Disk Drive  is WDC2500BEKT-75A25T0  Driver v.5.1.2535.0)

Any other suggestions?

If not.....we only have XP clients. Should I try SP3 or SP4?
Done for the day in MI.  Til tomorrow,
Nancy

Have you tried the ahci driver I compiled for the 2.6.18.8 kernel?

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/downloads/intel-sata-driver-ahciko-linux-automation-ds68sp2-ds69sp2

To create a Linux wait job, do the following:

  1. Create a new job, call it Linux Wait
  2. Add a new task, selecting Wait (this is at the bottom of the list)
  3. When prompted for the automation environment, select your Linux automation
  4. Click Finish
This job when executed on you client will halt linux automation, and give you time to do troubleshooting.

If you do have time to upgrade to DS6.9SP4 I do recommend it if you are fancying a move to Windows 7. The upgrade won't stop you from having to inject new drivers though -that's still a given!

Loaded the 6.8 SP2 version of e1000e.ko

Success:  DS now recognizes the computer and I get an icon in New computers.
When I boot the computer with a job waiting, the computer boots to Linux.

Failure:  The job does not start. - Tried several different jobs.
At the # prompt I typed modprobe -l e1000e.  I get only one line:
 /lib/modules/2.6.18.8/kernel/drivers/net/e1000e.ko

Linux does not seem to recognize the Hard Drive when BIOS is set to ATA.  With BIOS set to AHCI linux halts and eventually reboots instead of starting the image job.  (want to use AHCI)

Now that I see the machine in DS I could drop a linux wait job, but still cannot figure out how to do that programming.

Just got a delivery of 25 more laptops.  They are piling up!!! Yikes.

Do I need to upgrade to 6.9 sp3 or sp4?  Which? Is my problem with 6.8 SP1 driver that the HD driver is too old?

Thank you for your help.

Hi,

For getting Linux to sit and wait, create a job called "Linux Wait" and add a wait task for Linux automation. Drop that job onto the computer, PXE boot and then it should automatically load up Linux automation and wait there for you to rummage around.

But... yep -you don't want this kernel module!! You want this one,
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/downloads/intel-gigabit-driver-e1000eko-linpe-ds68sp2-ds69sp2

This is for DS6.8SP2 upto DS6.9SP2.

at the linux prompt I typed dmesg | grep "e1000e"
The prompt returns to a linux #, but I do not get a listing of anything.

I am on 6.9 sp1.  I hope that is not my problem.  I know I have one e1000e.ko in my automation. It allows us to PXE to Optiplex 760.

Linux inept.
How do I 'drop' a linux 'wait' job?

Jul 09, 2010 03:25 PM

Hi,

I apologise -the command is dmesg | grep "e1000e"

To check that the driver is there in you PXE automation image, drop a Linux WAIT job on the machine and navigate to,

/lib/modules/2.6.27.7/kernel/opt/bdc

Check that you've got the e1000e.ko in there, and run a,

modinfo ./e1000e.ko

to see what version you get.

Kind Regards,
Ian./

IAN:  I was thrilled to discover you had complied a Linux driver for the e6410, but it is not working for me. I am still very novice in getting new machines to appear in DS, so that may be a contributing factor.  I loaded the driver into PXE.

DS 6.9 SP1  -VMware 3.5, 2003 R2 Standard

1.  I already have an e1000e driver loaded for the Dell Optiplex 760, but DS is not recognizing an e6410 that is wired to the network, although the machine boots to linux.
2.  I have loaded your version , twice.  Each time everything goes smoothly until I click the SAVE button on PXE manager.  I can see that Menu130 is updated in the Master Image directory and the Images directory shows Menu130.tmp.  I have stopped PXE services and deleted Menu130.tmp to recreate the Images\Menu130, but it still is not working.

3.  I used your information at https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/linux-broadcom-netextreeme-driver-kernel-module-tg3ko. At the Linux # I typed modprobe -l e1000e.  I do not see the line " /lib/modules/2.6.27/kernel/opt/bdc/e1000e.ko
4.  When I type dmseg | grep "e1000e"  I get a message that 'dmseg command cannot be found'

We load Win XP on our machines but use Linux to deliver the image and to do a backup from C to D.

New e6410 specs:
NIC - Intel 82577LM Gigabit Network Connection,  Driver- Intel 11.6.92.0
          Disk Drive - WDC 2500BEKT-75A25T0, Driver-v5.1.2535.0

I appreciate any help you can give me. 300 machines to image for Birmingham Michigan school district.
