Deployment Solution

This is a follow up to LiteSwitch V1 I released on Connect in October of last year. This version functions identically to the previous version (for now). I have copied the usage over from the previous post. I have posted a changelog first however. I will be making some improvements for 1.2, namely the option to connect to a remote computer and change the entry as well as accepting a list of machines to do batch adjustments.

1.1 ChangeLog

• Removed non-functional Edit menu entry 
• Added code to handle the Exit click event from the File menu
• Wrapped try/catch statements around events to handle exceptions
• Cleaned up the File menu (removed unneeded separators)

Usage

LiteSwitch is a small utility meant to be run from a thumbdrive that provides useful functions for configuring the Altiris Deployment Agent settings on Windows XP/Vista/7. It currently supports three functions which are:

• Telling you the current deployment server (DS) assignment of the computer
• Restarting the AClient/DAgent service
• Letting you change the deployment server assignment of the computer

To view the current DS:

• Launch LiteSwitch
• Click on “Get Current DS”
• A message box will display the current DS assignment

To restart the DS service:

• Launch LiteSwitch
• Click on “Restart Service”
• If you want to verify it was restarted, an Event Log is written with Event ID #7036

To change the DS assignment:

• Launch LiteSwitch
• Type an IP or Hostname into the text box
• Click on “Change”
• Verify it was changed by clicking “Get Current DS”
• The DS service should be restarted to ensure the client immediately reports to the new DS
