This pack contains a parent folder and 3 reports. The intent of these reports is to provide multiple methods of identifying which NS product versions are installed on each of your NSs. This information will prove useful for larger environments that need to keep all their NS solution versions in sync.

Sample Screenshot of Report #1

  • The first report does a cross-server comparision.
  • The second report will do the comparision, using the selected server as the baseline.
  • The third report is a pure data view, you can choose a single server, or all servers.

Simple configuration instructions are also included in the comments of the first report.

To make these reports work, you must forward the NS computer object from each child NS to the reporting NS (many people already do this by default). Hardware Inventory (from Inventory Solution) must be run on each NS (also common). At a minimum the following two dataclasses must be sent through inventory fowarding:

Basic Inventory -> AeX AC NT Services

Inventory > Operating System > Aex OS Add Remove Programs

The attached file should be imported into the NS under the reports tab, wherever you place your other custom reports. The reports should be installed on your "parent" or "reporting" NS.

As you said, these reports

As you said, these reports would be pretty useful in an environment with more than one NS. Thanks.

Stand Alone Tool...

There is also a stand alone tool developed by one of the AE's called the NS Analyzer. It does the same thing but uses direct SQL calls to each NS you define as well as uses the first server as the "baseline"

KB

The tool Ben mentions can be downloaded from AKB 32508.  I believe Scott is the man behind that one as well...

Nice but only for version 6

there are a few change in AddRemove Programs NT services... So all those using the "table name2 instead of the "view anme" will have some problems. Hum I do not verify, not sure using the views permit still such reports working from NS6 to 7 ;-)
anyway, that was not guarantee from Symantec at all.
