Registry Key: Commandline From Here

Mar 06, 2009 05:02 PM

This registry key will install an option to open a command prompt when you right click on a folder. It's a very handy feature I can barely do without these days.

I urge you only to run this on administrator machines and not any out in use by "normal" users.

The registry file itself looks like this;

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\DosHere]
@="Command &Prompt:"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\DosHere\command]
@="C:\\windows\\SYSTEM32\\cmd.exe /k cd \"%1\""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\DosHere]
@="DOS &Prompt Here"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\DosHere\command]
@="C:\\windows\\SYSTEM32\\cmd.exe /k cd \"%1\""

If you are using Vista and W7, and you want to activate command prompt option in right click menu.

while clicking on folder, hold the shift key and press right mouse button. the menu will appear with command prompt option. this is valid for vista and Windows7.

In Windows 7, if you are accessing folder through UNC and use command promt option, this will open command prompt and will automatically mount the network drive.
