Sample Workflow: Symantec Hardware Request

Mar 14, 2008 11:31 AM

The Symantec Hardware Request workflow automates the selection and acquisition of hardware from the initial request through to the stock room pulling the hardware off its shelf.
This workflow demonstrates several advanced workflow concepts such as concurrent workflows, pulling data into and out of the CMDB and shopping carts and other advanced functionality. This workflow is configured to use a Notification Server and you will need to change the global notification server setting and credentials in the project global settings. You will also need to either update the e-mail global settings or configure your local e-mail server to use an altiris.local domain. I describe this process in another article I published. This workflow is a beta workflow and is intended to demonstrate several critical pieces of functionality in Workflow Solution. We will be making periodic up dates it to reflect changes in flow or functionality.

Hi all,

My question concerns the globaldata.data file reference which can be found in the "Resources" tab of the project.
I can easily imagine that this file content aims to get the whole variables used for this project and it's valuable to use this way instead of declaring plenty of variables in the "Global Data" tab (and use the scroll bar ^^), but ... I can not open it and watch its content :(

Does anybody have the same problem ? or is there a "trick" to solve the problem ? :)

Many thanks for your help
Regards
Seb

Hello,
I have the connection to the database which was not correct earlier as IIS was corrupted...
Now in the Business Model am getting this warning
"No implementation for this step in the business model"
What are the steps to correct this warning?

Still learning & progressing...
After reinstalling again everything it seems going further.
Whate are the Altiris Generators used if any? What are the libraries names?

I read again the documentation and it seems that the sample needs all components available so I imported them and it loads now.
https://kb.altiris.com/article.asp?article=40909&p=1
“”
Some components are provided in component libraries that are not listed in the
component tool box. To import component libraries, you need to click the Import
Components in Workflow Designer.
“”
It remains that the sample is giving other errors but which does not seem to be from the same level anymore.
"The connection to default is not handled or an unhandled trigger must be present"
"No implementation for this step in the business model"
"This component has no connection coming into it. It is required to have at least one"
And several on variables...
Looking for the structure behind these errors.
"Variable to Reuqestervar does not exists"
I used "Select Implemented Components" and a lot of errors went away ... excellent...
Thanks
Dom

Which version of workflow solution are you using?
Which components default, advanced, extra have to be there to make it work?
The error is:
"This project was created with a later build of the platform (1295) than this version of the tool (1290). It is not recommended that you open the project. Do you want to open anyways?"
- I saw you are using [[ProjectProperties].RequestEmail], [[ProjectProperties].smtpServer] are they standard values or should be installed after the installation of workflow solution as I am missing several components and I have a lot of "!" on the Model:Primary?
I have used KB40939 but nothing more, still a lot of links broken, I got three times the error:
"Cannot Read Type LogicBase.Components.Default.Workflow.DialogWorkflowComponent"

If a portion of a webform has unusable controls, then the problem is most likely that Workflow's virtual directories were installed to the wrong web site.
Look for LogicbaseWebInclude and LogicBaseWorkflowPages
They can be safely exported, deleted, and then imported under the correct website. I believe there is also a KB that describes how to recreate them.

I like this workflow, however I can only seem to get it running when in debug mode. Once I publish it I get authentication errors relating to accessing the altiris database using the NT AUTHORITY/NETWORK SERVICE account. Just to test things out I made that account dbo of the altiris database and I could get the initial page to load. When I got to the page asking me to add items to the cart though I couldn't actually add anything. I could find items that were in the catalog, but I couldn't select any of the lines to add them to the cart...

If you are using WF on your NS - make sure you check out KB article 40939. That fixed things and got this working for me.

I have set up my demo environment as indicated in this post and have data to pull from in my SQL DB except I cannot get this WF to work.
I get time out errors with data being looked for in a C:\Stuff directory too.

Are more coming out? I heard when workflow shipped it was going to be shipped w/ demo data?
Also I noticed this threw an error in debug that still references c:\stuffs\ shouldn't that be taken care of?

This looks to be very similar to the one that was demoed at our usergroup meeting recently. It was a great example and I didn't have the guts to ask for it to pick apart. Thanks for making that available. We'll be doing something similar to that soon I hope.
