Ok, the name Enterprise Edition maybe somewhat overdone, but for our company this is a very valuable tool.

I created it for our helpdesk to manage remote SVS machines.

[Updated to allow you to choose the source of your computerlist and to allow you to export all layers at once or import all layers from the import folder at once. (See the changelog for complete details.)]

Features

It creates a list of the computers in your domain and does have search functionality.

Just click a computername to manage SVS.

Most functions of the standard Admin Console are available.

  • Activate
  • Deactivate
  • Reset
  • Rename
  • Delete
  • Set auto status
  • Export/import (local machine only)

It also allows the possibility of alternate credentials, so non-admins can be allowed to manage SVS machines.

Future

Export/import on remote machines is planned for a next version.

Any suggestions to add other functionality are welcome.

Download

You can download it now at: http://k00tje.f-sw.com/

To prevent that the comments wil be a slow chat i ask you kindly to report bug's and suggestions to my e-mail address k00tje@gmail.com

How do you...

I think that this is a great idea, and I have been looking for something like this. I have a question: How do you connect to the remote machine?

Thanks,

I make connections via the WMI provider

For an example you can checkout this article:

An additional functionality

An additional functionality could be a menu where discover and filter the network computer list.

I have in my network a long computer list and in the SVS admin there is only the first 1000 computers shown, and the remaining are missing.

Thanks

Good tip

For now i have removed the 1000 computers limit.
(i only have 950 computers in my network, so didn't notice this limit)

This version 1.01 can be downloaded now.
A discovery option takes some more time.

I tried but still see no

I tried but still see no more than 1000 computers...

Are there any ways to filter the computername or IP address range?

Please have some patience

It's odd.
In my test lan i created over 1000 computer objects and see them all.

By default the DirectorySearcher returns not more than 1000 objects and i adjusted the code to return it all.

I'm starting soon with a discovery/filter option. In a few days i will put in some sort of option to enter a machine name (as a short term solution)

thnx for your input

SVS 2.1.2069 beta

Hi, i am testing SVS 2.1.2069 beta and SVS Admin Enterprise Edition v1.02 [updated]
can import only to local machine. Fails to import to remote machine with full domain admin user. Is there a log to view the errors in? As the line at the top for the status do not wrap to see the full error.

Regards,
Jaco

computer list

I'm wondering exactly where you are getting the computer list from? I'll just say that I have well over 10,000 devices and the app takes about 5 minutes to come up. Is there any way to limit the list or find out where the device list is coming from? Is it coming from Active Directory?

Computer list comes from AD

Soon i will start with a discovery tool which will run as a service on a separate machine.

My plan is to schedule tasks with it to collect machines and put them in a database which can be read by the admin tool.

A database can be managed in different ways and is therefore a more flexible solution.

10000 machines would be no problem then.

Computer list comes from AD

I have been getting voice mails from our domain admins regarding me locking out my domain password... This tool tries to log into each device on the domain... i have admin access to the desktops but not to the servers... It would be nice to be able to give it a partial list to query or perhaps an AD OU... Either way, is there a way to pull the workstation list with out "log in"...

Answer

Prog is NOt connecting to every device in the domain.

It just connects to AD to retrieve a list of all computer objects and put's this in the list.
Just when you click a machine it's connecting to that machine to checkout if SVS is installed.

I have written a big part of the code for a discovery service and will also change the way computers can be retrieved.
But this cost a lot of time, so be patience.

As a quickfix i have added an option in the configure window to disable automatically collect computers from the domain.

You can download this version (1.03) now from my website.

Great Tool

Just wanted to say that this will definitely help our transition to SVS move along much more quickly than it is right now. Keep up the great work.

Vista support?

Hi k00tje,

Does this tool happen to detect the svs client installed on Vista machines? I have SVS installed in my test lab on several Vista boxes but when I query it with the SVS AdminEE tool it says that no SVS client is installed. It works great on the XP boxes. I have no plans on deploying out Vista anytime soon but thought I would ask. Thanks.

1010 FSL2_ERROR_EXTRACT

A remote import/export is currently not possible.
As soon as i figured out how to manage this i will put this in a next version. I wonder what you did.
With this error i should check the path to the import folder.

Firewalled

I need to get this through our firewall, but the ports seem to change. What exception do we need to include?
