SVS Plug-In for Microsoft SMS

This SVS Plug-In for Microsoft SMS makes deployment and administration of SVS with SMS a breeze. It's all point and click. You don't need to get intimate with command line syntax (unless you're a masochist and really want to!). And it's completely free.

Altiris SVS is architected to be open and manageable via any management framework. One of the most popular non-Altiris management products out there is Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS). SMS communicates with SVS clients via the SVS command line interface, just as Altiris Notification Server and Altiris Deployment Server do.

To run:

1. Needs to be on an SMS (Microsoft Systems Management Server) server or machine with the SMS console loaded as it needs the SMS WMI provider. Just unzip all files into one directory.
2. The file to run is smssvs.hta. Once this file runs once it sets up the link in the SMS console, accessible by right-clicking on the packages folder, going to SMS Tools, and then to Manage SVS. From then on it can be accessed from the SMS console.

1. The utility will set up a link in the SMS console after running the file svssms.hta one time. The link is accessed by right-clicking on the packages folder, going to SMS Tools, and then to Manage SVS.
2. This utility has only been tested with SMS 2003. It must run on a machine which has the SMS WMI provider. This is usually accomplished by having the SMS console installed or being an SMS server.
3. If you access several sites from a machine, there may be issues as to which site you will access. The utility looks for the local provider. Try listing the packages or programs to determine which site you are connected to. If this is an issue, let Altiris support know.
4. The programs are set up to use administrator rights and are set to allow user interaction. They are, however, automated so there is no interaction necessary and this can be removed in the SMS console if desired.
