Yes..

Most of the times Support is not sure what is internal and what can be external otherwise this tool would have been out long time back..
But I still beleive Cleanwipe should be just internal.

CleanWipe great here

I gues you only hear from folks who had a problem with CW. I have used it on servers and desktops (PCs and laptops) for years with no issues.

I even used to prepare a new server for installing a SAV console or a SEPM with it.

To me it is a vital tool sometimes.

Thanks

Is it possible that this nice

Is it possible that this nice little tool only works on english operating systems?

I just ran the tool sucessfully on a computer running Windows Server 2003 (English). On another domain, on a domain controller running Windows Server 2003 (German) the tool complains that I'm not a member of local or domain admin group.

As far I remember this tool

As far I remember this tool wasn't tested on Non English OS. However that should not matter if it failing at authentication.

Actually it does matter

  Hi,

Yes it is a know issue that this tool fails on non english system, main reason being it referes to groups by name instead of ID's.
For example it will check that the account you are logged in belongs to the "administrators" group, which usually has a different name on Non English Windows.

Unfortunately there is no way around this, you can script the Sylinkdrop utility found on the tools folder of SEP CD2 instead.

Regards

Well, determining user

Well, determining user accounts and groups by name is a common programming mistake. Luckily I only have a handfull of clients to fix.

Common Sense 101

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

Posting this tool in the forum here saves people a load of time contacting support. What still boggles my mind is why support would instead want to be swamped in useless support calls and requests when their should be a public area like this for all of Symantec's support tools.

Bravo to the user Aniket Amdekar for his insight by providing this tool publically in the forum...............

Register clients to the SEP Server

Revently I migrated to a new server (same IP and server name). The sylinkreplacer tool worked great. But how would I perform the same process manually for machines that are not part of the Domain?

Thanks all for your help.

Hi, You will have to stop

Hi,

You will have to stop Symantec service first before replacing sylink.xml file manually.

Follow the steps :

Start --> run --> smc -stop  ( It will stop the service)

Copy Sylink.xml file and replace under  c:\program files\Symantec\Symantec end point protection, it will ask you to over rite file, click yes.

Start --> run --> smc -start (it will start the service)

Thanks and Regards,

Windows 7

I have the same issue as Stanleyj.   All xp systems updates sylink.  All win7 machines state "path not found".

No windows firewall or UAC turned on.     Does sylinkreplacer has a win 7 issue?

SylinkReplacer 12.1 download link - tested it and it works

Below is the link to download the SylinkReplacer for SEP 12.1

http://www.mediafire.com/?7mw1n25yywdu1dq

password is Symantec (lowercase)

I tested it using a SEP 12.1 client which was not communicating with the SEPM and is was successful.

It bypasses the SEP 12.1 tamper protection.
