Symantec pcAnywhere Monitor Pack

Sep 17, 2009 01:30 PM

This Monitor Pack consists of 2 Monitor Policies, 1 Agent-Based and 1 Agentless.

The Agent-based Monitor Policy will work only on Servers running the Altiris Monitor Solution Plug-in and will report on the information status of both the pcAnywhere Windows Service and Process.  This can be configured to report a Severity status and as a results it is also possible to implement Auto Remdiation or Auto Installation as a Task.

The Agentless Monitor Policy will work on any Windows resource that has WMI enabled and will report on the information status of both the pcAnywhere Windows Service and whether port 5631 is Open.  This can be configured to report a Severity status and as a results it is also possible to implement Auto Remdiation or Auto Installation as a Task.

This Policy contains Informational only status and no Remediation Tasks.  These can be configured easily after importing the Monitor Packs.

Best Regards,

As far as I remember, RMS isn't officialy supported for an agent-based monitoring.

But, I know that RMS is able to perform an agentless monitoring along with agent-based monitoring of itself as well smiley (That what I've seen and tried during tests some years ago).

All you need is to include your NS server in resource target of required agent-based monitor policy and refresh policy in Symantec Mangement agent.

Better way:

Uninstall local RMS on NS Server and install RMS on remote Windows Server to perform an agentless monitoring, and install agent-based monitor agent on local NS and perform agent-based monitoring of itself via agent-based monitor policies.

Thanks,

IP.

Hi IP,

That is correct. I would like to have a single Notification Server monitor both agent-based and agentless clients.

Are there any known workarounds?

Hi Slytherine,

no, you can't have both Monitor plug-ins on same NS Server.

Only RMS or only Monitor-Agent can be used per single NS.

Seems like you'd like to perform an agentless monitoring via RMS on NS Server and also would like to perform an agent-based monitoring of own NS server as well, using agent-based monitor policies?

Thanks,

IP.

Can user install both Agent-based Monitor Plugin (Altiris Monitor Plugin) and Agentless Monitor Plugin (Altiris Monitoring RMS) onto the same Notification Server?
