TorSVS v10

toralf's picture

A GUI to administrate SVS layers. Inspired by the excellent work of Rajat and FrankB I created a new tool to administrate SVS layers. It is designed to give maximum usability. [See changelog for a list of changes added to this version.]

The GUI hides in the upper left corner of your screen. Just move your mouse to the upper left corner of your screen and the GUI appears. When it loses focus it hides again.

All actions are context sensitive. Press the right mouse button to get different options or information. A filter allows you to minimize the number of layers shown. Press enter or click with middle button or double-click on an layer and it activates or deactivates the selected layer.

Current limitation is that you have to be admin to run the app.

You can see from my screeshots, that I have gone totally SVS lately. :)

Doesn't work in Vista?

It starts with an icon in the taskbar, and then nothing happens?

If I wait about a minute the icon disappears and if I look in my running processes it is gone.

Running SvS 2.1.2032

Kind Regards, FrankB

Nothing to test on

I'm sorry to hear that it doesn't run on your Vista machine. I do not have Vista on any machine I have access to. Thus I can't test or reproduce it.

PS: I have the same SVS Version. But run WinXP Pro SP2.

Maybe the problem.

I don't have Vista either (I bleed enough at work with our software don't need any more), but I have seen a demo of it and your comment about having to be admin strikes me as a possible answer since Vista insists on the user running as a normal user that then has to switch user to do any admin task, and then switch back.

During the demo it certainly struck me as something that my company would have a problem with since the software is setup to run machines, and is always admin. But they did say that a user could turn that off, but most would insist on it being on.

I'll look into it. Maybe I can find someone in the AHK forum to tell me why this happens. Sorry for the trouble.

Works ok in XP

In XP it works great indeed.

Just Vista is a problem.

Also works in Windows 2003. But yes, that is the same kernel as XP uses.

That's true, but how many

That's true, but how many surprises do we have to discover in WOW Vista ?

erikw's picture

Vista surprises

The first surprise was the clean install of over 4 GB.

And now I quote someone else who's name I forget.

"Vista is more game-garbage and eye-candy."

We will encounter a new world of Vista trouble, lapses in security and fast PCs that become slow after a Vista install.

But no worry.
Service Pack 1 is on its way.

Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the feedback. It is good to know that it is running well on other OS than mine.

Why not Vista?

I don't have Vista so this is just a guess, but I would think the answer might be in your statement about having to be admin.

In the Vista world you can't do anything as "admin". Vista wants to keep you in a normal user state and then just switch only when running an "admin" task and then switch back.

Opps, double post, because I didn't see this first post, and posted again.

Chris

toralf's picture

Possible cause

That could be the cause. May I ask Vista users to test if this is the case and post feedback?
Normally a tooltip should pop up when the user isn't admin. But I'm not sure if that is working on Vista, since no one of the Vista users mentioned that tooltip.

It works on Vista

It just works on Vista. No problem what so ever. Just run it as an administrator. The icon shows up in the system tray. Move your mouse to the left corner and there you go.

Create a shortcut to the exe and select Run as Administrator in the Advanced Properties.

But where is the administrate possibilities you have in SVS Solution Admin? You can only enable Active on Start or Rename. More options please.

In Progress

I'm working on it. I have plenty of features planned.

Please come back later and try again. I'll post a version history, so you can check if the functionality you want is available.

If you have an idea of any functionality that is not in the SVS Admin GUI (yet) but would like to have, send me an email with a detailed description and I will see if it is possible.

Oops, forgot: Thanks for the feedback. Good to know that it is also working on Vista. And for the tip to achieve it, so that others can test it too.

I am running it as an administrator, UAC is disabled on my machine, so I'm full admin.

You are admin ...

Does it run now?

Are you running an AV product that doesn't like Autohotkey?

Ciao
toralf

FrankB's picture

Yes...

It runs now, but...

Could you change the initial startup top left zero to a bit lower?

I'm a user who has his startmenu on top of the screen instead of the bottom of the screen :)

Runs fine now in Vista, and no my AV hasn't any problems with Autokey scripts.

Cheers, FrankB

Just move the GUI once.

It will remember its last position and size. Even between sessions. Does that fulfill your request?

May the force be...

Force causes the action to occur when it would otherwise fail, as in if the layer is active with processes running when you try to delete. It pretty much works just like deactivate force.
