Troubleshooting Machines with Duplicated GUIDs

One day when I was deploying encryption software to pilot machines, my phone start ringing. The guy from local support where the pilot started told me that many machines in his site were receiving encryption software. I told him that was impossible because at his site only one machine was identified as a pilot.

But after few minutes I realized that the task ran on one machine 5 times... I realized that there was something wrong with the GUID of pilot machine. We checked with local guy and yes, they had Altiris Agent installed in their standard image.

So then I started to work on how to target all machines with duplicated GUIDs. I found that Altiris already had a solution. In the attached XML is folder with two collections, packaged with the /resetguid switch and the task targeting machines with the possibly of having the same GUIDs.

SK is right

KB Article 3848 has been around since 2005 and the XML file contains updated information for the Duplicate Diagnostics tool. When imported correctly, you will have a Diagnostics folder on your tasks tab with tools to allow you to run the aexagentutil.exe which resides in each clients' altiris agent directory, with the /resetguid switch to assist in removing those duplicate items, with an already created dynamic collection of computers that appear to have duplicate GUID information. Subscribe to the KB article to include any changes that may be updated to the available XML file here --> https://kb.altiris.com/article.asp?article=3848&p=1

One thing to note...

I am unsure of what others have run into, but I have seen where it is necessary to delete the asset from the console AND run the /resetguid command line option.

Has this been changed or updated in V5 of the tools? Also, is there a change log with what has changed from version to version?
