Virtual Application Manager (VAM) - is a utility to help in the management of Virtual Software Packages on a local computer or remotely.  You can do all the normal functions to a layer on any workstation you have access to over the network (of course, admin rights on the remote machine are a must) or on a local computer.  SVS must be installed on the workstation you wish to manage.  If you are only intending on managing remote workstations, the local host does not need SVS installed to do so.

Simply enter the computer name or IP address you would like to connect to, enter your user id an password (either a local admin account on the remote machine or your domain credentials with admin rights to the machine) and click "Query Apps".  For a local computer enter a dot "." for the computer name (using the WMI classes to manage) and no user id or password is required to continute.  (note: if managing your local machine, it will need SVS installed)

You will get a list of virtual applications on that machine.  If there are not any virtual applications installed on the workstation you are querying, a message stating "There are no Virtual Application installed on XXXXX".  If there are virtual applications to manage, clicking on an application in the list will enable/disable the available functions of activate, deactivate, reset, delete and toggle auto activate.

Requires .NET Framework 2.0 installed on the local (host) computer.

Requires SVS installed on the computers you wish to manage.

If you have any questions or would like me to post the source or would like the source for you to expand on/play with, please let me know.  If you have any thoughts on features ore additions, send me a message and I will update as I have time.

Just Curious

If this was created with Screenbert's and my SVS WMI C# Class?

Nope

No, I simply used the WMI methods SVS has available.  Single function, 3 variables (strLayerGuid, strMethodType, blForce) and then act accordingly.

I have not taken a look at the class you have, but will do so now, probalby could have made things even easier.

I have a special version I use for myself that has import funtionality.  Grabs the path and fileName from the database, creates a list and allows me to import remotely or locally. Pretty nice for quick on the fly virtual installs!

Cool

I was just wondering because I like to know if people were using the content I created, just so I know if it's helpful to create similar content.  I found that using WMI in .NET (C#) to be a pain to learn, there's not much documentation even on the MSDN, so that's why I created a class with all the SVS WMI functions in it.  Then Screenbert took it and added remote managing.

Looks good after testing

I've tested this in my VM Test environment and it is really looking good.

I have around 9 VM Test machines, but able to connect to only 6 using VAM. Must be something to do with the connection i believe.

Anyway thank you for such a nice tool.

Thanks,

Nice program!  I tested it out on a few machines and it worked great.  Makes mangaing SVS layers on machines very easy.

Hi,    I would like to know,

Hi,

I would like to know, how can I use this VAM? I would like to have both IE 7 and IE 8 but as we all know both cannot co-exist on the OS. I am currently using Windows 7 and I have IE 8 on my system, can I use this VAM to run IE 7 virtually? Thanks.

IE7 Can't run on Win7 without

IE7 Can't run on Win7 without a lot of custom code in the background.

Now on XP you can use SWV to get IE6, IE7 and IE8 all running at the same time with some free packaging tools available here on connect.
