This is a request to enable the Altiris Knowledge Base (KB) to be searchable via Google or other search engine.  This will allow customers to be able to find information about Altiris when using a standard internet search.  This will also allow this information to be cached by Google and other search engines so that it is available when the Altiris KB is down. Many other vendors, such as Microsoft, allow their knowledge bases to be searched via standard internet search engines.

Patch Management Add the ability to configure software update tasks to install ASAP after the scheduled install time. Currently, if a computer misses the schedule, it will not run  / receive the update. If the schedule is 2 a.m. and the computer is always offline during this time, the computer will never receive the patch. Cheers, Peter

I have found the console in NS 6, 6.5, and 7 to be very confusing and unorganized. Some real thought should go into the next upgrade as to how the console should be designed. Why not have all setting, policies, or jobs for a certain module all under that particular component. If I wanted to configure something in Patch management, I could go to Patch management and configure the settings, jobs, task and/or policies right there. Now I have to go from Settings to Manage and then maybe ...

It would be nice with a function to send out urgent messege to all computers from NS or deployment. För example when you need to push out a message that say that is some sort of problem, who the users need to know about maybe logout or that the e-mail server is down.

Hello. I use the new Software Catalog (Software components), available from CMS7, with a new huge listing available from SP1 (near 80'000 software components). It is a very great value-add from Symantec, all the same we we would like also more included information regarding "dependent rules", "inventory rules", etc... Now, also SVS 2.1 is included with CMS7, so it is easy to activate the check box "run in a virtual layer" to redirect the package ...

Hi, I think it would be brilliant if we could see in 'real-time' a graphical overview of which package/site servers need replication to become up to date and in addition their organisational layout. In most cases they have block out settings applied, and it would nice to see when they start communicating again, or from a troubleshooting point of view, we could instantly see which package/site servers have lost thier sync with the NS Server. Currently this is quite a manual, long winded ...

In NS6 it was possible to double-click a task schedule under Task Status, select any machines that the task failed on, right-click, and choose Start Now to immediately re-run the task on those clients.  This was very convenient when you wanted to retry a task that had failed on some clients.  This option does not exist in NS7.  You can restart the entire task, with all of the devices that succeeded and failed, but to run the same task again on only failed clients you have to ...

I suspect I'm not alone in this...Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2/Core are definitely on our short-term radar.  What is a bit of a longer-term upgrade is NS7/CMS7/LSS/RS7.  We're going to need support for Windows 7 / Server 2008 R2 in NS6.  Hopefully the underlying OS architectures of Win7 and Server 2008R2 (GUI mode) is close enough to Vista that it would not be a monumental effort to make the NS6 Altiris Agent ...

During the install of SMC it would be nice to have more customization control over Symantec Management  Console. Such control would be to include or exclude features for Linux, Mac, or Windows. If you select not to install such features then the agents, reports, and other such tools should not show up on the console.

Hello, Except I miss something or trip/trick for this, we can not capture a new layer or update an existing, if this layer has a "high" dependency to another. eg. if you create a layer for your SQL express, and you want to create another layer for your DS installation: You need the SQL running, to install your DS. But you cannot do that because to capture a "new application", you must deactivate ALL your existing layers ! I also try to create an "empty layer", ...

In NS6 you had the ability to enter report parameters before the report executed.  In NS7 the report executes as soon as you select it, and you can't make any changes to the report parameters until it has finished running.  This can be particularly frustrating when a report takes a very long time to run.

how about adding some of the more commonly used tech terms to the forum spell check dictionary?  words like "unicast" "multicast" and product names like "altiris"  "backupexec" and things like that.

I'm running Patch Management Solution 6.x and think it'd be cool if there was some automatic mechanism to stage then deploy the patches on different schedules to different collections.  For awhile now, per our internal desktop patch management agreement, I've been testing the updates on 2 or 3 of my PCs when Microsoft's "Patch Tuesday" rolls around and if I don't encounter any problems, I'll deploy to desktops in just my department (IT) a week later ...

Prelude Initially, I wrote this about Backup Exec, because that's where I ran into this problem. I'm also a SAV & SEP veteran but don't recall seeing this heinous language in their KB articles. So maybe it's a Veritas thing. But, whatever... ...then it occurred to me that while BE may (or may not) be the only Symantec enterprise product to which the symptom applies, the cure is universal. Because it bridges a huge gap between the goals of Symantec Sales, Support, ...

Many of our users are mobile and use a VPN client to connect back to our network.  Consequently, they have 2 or more IP addresses (one for the onboard NIC/wireless NIC and another for the VPN connection).  We often would like to use "WOL" or "Immediately notify each computer of task" options in the Software Delivery Task.  However when reviewing the NS Log, we see a lot of errors from AeXNetComms.dll like this: Module: ...

A lot of people create custom reports that could be useful to other people, but it is difficult to find them on Connect.  When someone creates a report and puts it on Connect, they could be tested and approved by Symantec and then added to a specific location that could then be accessed from the NS Console.  This would be an easy way to share "good" reports and could save time for a lot of us.  You would also know what kind of reports people are needing and they ...

I highly sugest Altiris integrate in the inventory the following information, seems not currently collected by default from Altiris CMS 6 or CMS 7 (and that is a shame) Device enumeration string (PCI/VEN_8086&DEV_1234) Device driver file, Version + name + editor name... I was so despite to see not included in standard Altiris inventory 7 !

Some products that may be discovered by our inventory scans may be malware, key loggers, known vulnerabilities etc.  Symantec already do a lot of work in this area and could probably come up with a list of things that you don’t want to see on your computer.  I am not just talking viruses here because that is obviously the job of an anti virus product, I am talking about the products that fall into that grey area where it is not a virus however it could have some ...

NS 7 currently generates an internal schedule calendar. The calendar displays such events as block out periods, maintenance windows, and more. It would be nice to expand this calendar to display other task and jobs. Such as when agent pushes are scheduled, software delivery, or inventory jobs will run. I currently keep this in a spreadsheet. I think it would be beneficial if NS generated this report automatically.

When you enable and run a Managed Software Delivery policy on a PC you can double-click the policy in the Altiris Agent to see additional information, including the source location for the download and the download status.  This same information is not available when running a software install task or job.  You see that the task is "Running", but that can mean that it's downloading or actually executing, and it's not clear which unless you look at the Altiris Agent ...
