This is a request to enable the Altiris Knowledge Base (KB) to be searchable via Google or other search engine.  This will allow customers to be able to find information about Altiris when using a standard internet search.  This will also allow this information to be cached by Google and other search engines so that it is available when the Altiris KB is down. Many other vendors, such as Microsoft, allow their knowledge bases to be searched via standard internet search engines.

It would be nice with a function to send out urgent messege to all computers from NS or deployment. För example when you need to push out a message that say that is some sort of problem, who the users need to know about maybe logout or that the e-mail server is down.

When creating software deployment jobs within NS it would be great if there was a software prerequisite toolset of some sort. This toolset would allow you to specify OS and application requirements that must be present before software installations can continue.

Really needs to be built into an enterprise level tool like this, we are using the update synch trigger originally created by Condorman and have issues with that not working quite as expected. It would be great if full Active Directory synchronisation was built into the product

What I think would make a great feature is to have syntax highlighting for the run script task in Deployment Server's Deployment Console. This feature would help catch typos and trivial script problems when creating ad-hoc scripts.

My issue with it is simply how messy the "Applications" list is in "Computer Properties". A base Windows instalaltion will show such things as: Address Book, Branding, DirectAnimation, IE40, IE4Data, IE5BAKEX, and every single KB article on the system. It also shows multiple entries for patches i.e. MSXML4, "Security", and many, many more. For Mac systems you get every little component like "X11", "Time Machine", ...

how about adding some of the more commonly used tech terms to the forum spell check dictionary?  words like "unicast" "multicast" and product names like "altiris"  "backupexec" and things like that.

Prelude Initially, I wrote this about Backup Exec, because that's where I ran into this problem. I'm also a SAV & SEP veteran but don't recall seeing this heinous language in their KB articles. So maybe it's a Veritas thing. But, whatever... ...then it occurred to me that while BE may (or may not) be the only Symantec enterprise product to which the symptom applies, the cure is universal. Because it bridges a huge gap between the goals of Symantec Sales, Support, ...

We use a service account to install applications. This means we have to ennter the account details for every task in every job we create. Not so bad as you go alog but if we need to change teh password we will need to renter it twice for each task which can be a real pain if you have one or two hundred jobs with multiple tasks and also filters. The account information used to join the PCs to a domain is stored in the system surely it must a simple task to store account information centrally ...

I highly sugest Altiris integrate in the inventory the following information, seems not currently collected by default from Altiris CMS 6 or CMS 7 (and that is a shame) Device enumeration string (PCI/VEN_8086&DEV_1234) Device driver file, Version + name + editor name... I was so despite to see not included in standard Altiris inventory 7 !

NS 7 currently generates an internal schedule calendar. The calendar displays such events as block out periods, maintenance windows, and more. It would be nice to expand this calendar to display other task and jobs. Such as when agent pushes are scheduled, software delivery, or inventory jobs will run. I currently keep this in a spreadsheet. I think it would be beneficial if NS generated this report automatically.

In the deployment console one can see the computerID in the properties of a computer object. Is it possible to show the JobtID in the properties of a job (which become visible by right-clicking a job and choosing properties)? This information would make it easier to use certain DS ASDK functions (eg scheduleManagement.CreateJobSchedule).

I think it would be cool if there could be a section under forums specifically for SDK related stuff.  That would give us coders an easy place to help each other out.

I can understand the desire to consolidate DS functionality into the NS, but the ability to immediately see the status of a computer in real-time (active or inactive) as well as the the currently logged on user is something that really needs to be added to the Symantec Management Console.  I'm aware that you can see the status of computers from the Site Management page when you're looking at your Task Servers, but you can't do anything from there, and logged-on user ...

Hey Everyone, If your organization is anything like ours, you have multiple Altiris users in different areas of your environment.  I know that you can go the local shares under computer management for the main Altiris server and see which users are connected up and which files they are using such as express.exe or the number of sessions open, but it would be nice if you didn't have to dig around on the main server and there was a button or area under the local console to prevent ...

Maybe there is an option for this somewhere and I don't know about it but I would find it convenient to have in the scheduling section when assigning a job an option for weekdays or weekends only.

Deployment Solution for Dell Servers has been an great tool to deploy, configure and maintain Dell Server hardware using very little effort.  It allows you to tweak nearly every setting in the Bios, raid controllers and other pieces of hardware using one to many jobs through the console.  What if a similar product were created for DS that allowed that granularity of control for Dell desktops and workstations?

First sorry for my bad english I hope you understand my idea anyhow. It would be great if you could add images of a City overview, Building, Floor & room, for an example if you looking for how many computer there is in Building B, Floor 2, Room 207  or something like that you could click on the image icon to drill down to computer level. Here you see a overview of a company building and if you click on building B you see next image here ...
