I suspect I'm not alone in this...Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2/Core are definitely on our short-term radar.  What is a bit of a longer-term upgrade is NS7/CMS7/LSS/RS7.  We're going to need support for Windows 7 / Server 2008 R2 in NS6.  Hopefully the underlying OS architectures of Win7 and Server 2008R2 (GUI mode) is close enough to Vista that it would not be a monumental effort to make the NS6 Altiris Agent ...

In NS6 you had the ability to enter report parameters before the report executed.  In NS7 the report executes as soon as you select it, and you can't make any changes to the report parameters until it has finished running.  This can be particularly frustrating when a report takes a very long time to run.

how about adding some of the more commonly used tech terms to the forum spell check dictionary?  words like "unicast" "multicast" and product names like "altiris"  "backupexec" and things like that.

Prelude Initially, I wrote this about Backup Exec, because that's where I ran into this problem. I'm also a SAV & SEP veteran but don't recall seeing this heinous language in their KB articles. So maybe it's a Veritas thing. But, whatever... ...then it occurred to me that while BE may (or may not) be the only Symantec enterprise product to which the symptom applies, the cure is universal. Because it bridges a huge gap between the goals of Symantec Sales, Support, ...

In NS6 it was possible to double-click a task schedule under Task Status, select any machines that the task failed on, right-click, and choose Start Now to immediately re-run the task on those clients.  This was very convenient when you wanted to retry a task that had failed on some clients.  This option does not exist in NS7.  You can restart the entire task, with all of the devices that succeeded and failed, but to run the same task again on only failed clients you have to ...

Creating a Client Task Schedule in the NS7 console gives you a lot of scheduling possibilities that would otherwise not have access to.  Unfortunately, you can only run a single task as part of the Client Task Schedule and cannot schedule a job.  With a Client Task Schedule you can, for example, set a schedule for a date in the past so that a task runs once ASAP, or runs on System Startup.  You can't schedule jobs to run at System Startup, and setting a job to run ...

First sorry for my bad english I hope you understand my idea anyhow. It would be great if you could add images of a City overview, Building, Floor & room, for an example if you looking for how many computer there is in Building B, Floor 2, Room 207  or something like that you could click on the image icon to drill down to computer level. Here you see a overview of a company building and if you click on building B you see next image here ...

We really need to be able to have a customized prompt for Software Delivery jobs.  The prompt to the user should be able to inform them of what is about to happen using a custom message ,maybe even a logo, and allow them to delay the task if needed.  This message would need to not have any cancel buttons and take measures to ensure that even an advanced user would not be able to cancel by killing the Altiris Agent or the delivery job. If the user ignored the message for a ...

When posting to the fora and even Symantec technical support; it would be realy useful if you could run a little report (either in SIM or Altiris itself) that was able to give an environment summary in a standard format. This would detail hardware, OS and solution information in a standard format, thereby making it easier for everybody involved to see at a glance all the basic information they would need before diving in any further. I know Enterprise Vault has a tool that can ...

With Altiris7 we are stuck to use Internet Explorer 7. I'd really like to see FULL browser support for any of the major browsers on any common platform. This should function under Windows, but I'd also like to have full console functionality when using a Linux or MAC platform to access it.

User specific data is stored in the SVS repository in a users SID key. Which is perfect since it is unique and independent of renaming of the user account. But to automatically change user settings you have to know the users SID. It might be possible with higher programming languages, but AFAIK batch/command files or script languages can't get the users SID robustly. If Altiris could extend the ability of SVSCMD.exe to return the SID of the current user, e.g. with a command line parameter ...

I have not been able to find way to do this, but it would be nice to be able to add a task in Helpdesk that allows the person working the incident to add a computer to a collection based on certain category criteria.

The ability to run pre/post scripts with the Patch Management Solution would be great in the server environment. Some servers have services that need to be stopped/started before reboots, backups taken, etc.

In our environment we cannot force a reboot due to sensitive data collection functions of many of our client machines. Having the ability to create a customised nag message reminding the client that their machine is vulnerable until rebooted would be extremely valuable. Administrators should also be able to configure the frequency of the nag message(s) and set an escalation frequecy, i.e. Have the message appear once per day for the first week, increase by X occurences each N ...
