It would be nice to have a list of known and confirmed bugs that Symantec support knows with a plan to fix it and maybe voting system (like in ideas) that we may vote what should be fixed first. With a bug there should be also ETA for a fix (in what release it will be fixed). Sometimes there is a known problem and even whitepapers available but only for internal use and it would be handy to be able to seek and reference something when calling support (obviously I'm not expecting that some ...

how about adding some of the more commonly used tech terms to the forum spell check dictionary?  words like "unicast" "multicast" and product names like "altiris"  "backupexec" and things like that.

Prelude Initially, I wrote this about Backup Exec, because that's where I ran into this problem. I'm also a SAV & SEP veteran but don't recall seeing this heinous language in their KB articles. So maybe it's a Veritas thing. But, whatever... ...then it occurred to me that while BE may (or may not) be the only Symantec enterprise product to which the symptom applies, the cure is universal. Because it bridges a huge gap between the goals of Symantec Sales, Support, ...

It might be useful if there were a way to identify the slow client(s) from the server side and manually remove them from the session, letting the rest of the clients blaze through quickly ? Since the Ghostcast session can only go as fast as the slowest client(?), it's inconvenient to have an entire computer lab tied up because one machine has poor network connectivity, slow drives, etc.  I'd gladly sacrifice 1-2 slow clients and rerun the imaging session if it meant that my 30+ other ...

Ok, so this might be way out there ... but if you take the "identify and terminate slow clients" and "require minimum bandwidth" ideas and add them together, then roll this back into the Ghost server itself ... It would theoretically be possible for GSS to find the clients that are going to make the imaging process take too long, force them to restart in a new session for the slower clients.  You need to get all of the machines reimaged, they're all ...

Along the same line as the "limit bandwidth" option, perhaps there could be a way to REQUIRE a minimum bandwidth for a session ?  So if you have a lab that is split across 10mb and 10/100mb switches (or 10/100 and 10/100/1000), you might be able to tell the server to reject the slow clients and get the image out to the rest of the systems quickly ... then go back and run the job later for those machines with poorer connectivity ?  We have a few buildings with old/lousy ...

it would be nice if there was an easer way to set up norton ghost v14.0. I love norton ghost v14 but thats only because I am a IT Tech person. I think both abilities to have automatic configuration and manual configuration is important so that if I wanted to set up ghost specially it is possible or generally it can be accomplished . One more thing I really admire Symantec for doing this new “Ideas” section it really rocks!! thanks a lot!!!

I think that Symantec should ensure that all their applications are available in Windows Installer format and come with a guide to customising the application using Wise Packaging Studio. You could call such a program "Administrator Friendly" or something, and even extend it to include 3rd party apps (for a fee, of course!). Have some rules like: Comes as Windows Installer. Includes an Admin customisation guide. No post install setup... Disable registration... etc.

What I would like: To deploy new OS image on any hardware, and let the automate managing all Windows drivers, on all versions. - identify new hardware, from existing clients, - collect new drivers & updated drivers from existing clients, - prepare packages to upgrade previous drivers versions - prepare tasks ready to launch for updating - of course, be able to deploy old OS image on new hardwares without rebuilding the image (as it is currently already the case using new DS 6.9 sp1 ...
