Backup Exec 2012 - How to license B2D-Capacity

Created: 29 Enero 2014 | 6 comments

am new to BUE and have the following question:

I am used to implement staging capacities with other vendor backup

software products. How does this work with BUE 2012?

Do i have to buy a special option like Advanced Backup to disk or something else?

Do i have to buy Capacity? What do i have to consider

when using Backup Exec as v-Ray-Edition?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Best regards

Backup 2 Disk is included, so you don't have to purchage anything extra.

If this response answers your concern, please mark it as a "solution"

I'm not sure, but are you referring to space requirements to stage a GRT restore from tape? This would be determined by the size of data backed up.

Please give more details about your backup environment and scenario.

the scenario would be as follows:
a data capacity of 4 TBytes of VM vmdk files
staged on fast SAS and afterwards cloned to 2nd
disk landing space.

No tapes in this scenario. Using BUE the first time.
So, still no extra costs? staging capacity included?

BE does not restrict you to any capacity for whatever media you use.  Once licenced you can back up as much data as you want.  However, for BE 2012, there is a capacity-based licencing model which is based on how much data you can back up and not how much data you want to keep.  See th licencing guide below

If you buy other licences or V-Ray, then there is no capacity limitation.

thanks for the explanation and links.

Just one question to a part of the guide you gave to me:

There is the fol. sentence

"NEW! Capacity Licensing - per TB

Deploy an unlimited number of Backup Exec media server and
Backup Exec Agent and Option licenses to protect your
So, i was not able to see whether a kind of option like formerly known
as "CASO" would be also within this TB licensing model?
Do you know that?

No. It is not included. CASO is part of ESO which is licensed separately
