I would like to suggest adding a "global exclude list" feature to netbackup.
This should be a list that exists next to the current client-based exclude list and is ALWAYS used for every client and every policy.

Why is this useful? For example: our organisation has just started to roll-out SCOM2007 on all servers.
This produces a new list of files-in-use on every server (for example edb.log, edb.tmp, edbtmp.log etc).
Adding these files to the exclude list means editing the exclude list for 700+ clients.

... but it's not or I just kind find it, so it gets my vote! :)

Altho' there is something similar posted by Stuart: Centralized 'Exclude/Include Manager'

IF you could make it OS specific as well - I know there are files that are always locked by windows, I would like to generically exclude them.

There is a built-in safe exclude list for Windows - for example, swap files are never backed up.

Exclude list implementation in NetBackup is platform specific - this is stored on in the client registry on WIndows and in client files on UNIX. Scripting can help implementing controlling exclude lists en masse.

That's the whole point: this is not something that every NBU site should need to script.

How difficult can it be to have the client ask the master server for the global list for this type of server and merge it with the locally stored list before processing it's filesystems?
