The threat landscape today is evolving radically. The latest Internet Security Threat Report Vol 17 from Symantec identified more than 403 million unique variants of malware in 2011, up 41 percent from 2010. Eight new zero-day vulnerabilities were discovered in 2011. Social networks and mobile computing are also opening up new security vulnerabilities and mobile phone OS vulnerabilities have also nearly doubled since 2010.
Contrary to what most have been led to believe, large enterprises aren't the only ones at risk. An important shift is taking place with 50% of targeted attacks focused on companies with less than 2500 employees, and 18% of attacks were directed at organizations with less than 250 employees.<
