    Posted Feb 01, 2008 09:12 AM
    Hello,
on a Dell Optiplex 755 system I have an Intel 82566DM-2 chip onboard.
I created a PXE boot image with UNDI drivers and the card is detected, but it connects only with 100MBit to my gigabit switch. I tried the e1000.dos (size: 57600bytes) driver, it is loaded right after himem but it reports:
Failure: Driver did not load, NDIS environment invalid.
As instructed by Dell, I disabled iAMT and updated to Bios Rev. A04, but nothing changed.
The protocol.ini is located in the same directory as the driver file and contains the following entry:

     DRIVERNAME = E1000$
Does anybody knows how to get the image transfer working with gigabit?

    Thanks in advance!
     regards, marc

    Hi Industek,
Have you resolved this issue. I have the same Dell 755 and the same issues. DELL support is worthless to me. I have a lot of task upon my plate, I really don't have the time to be sitting with them and their bogus resolutions. They said there was no documented issues such as the one you and I are having. I did the A09 bios thingey and the IDE setting within bios. Can you enlighten me with a resolution. If there isn't one, I will definitely tell my boss to cancel the 640 plus unit purchase he is planning with DELL. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks

There's a ton of crap about the 755s all over this forum, a quick search will find you more than you ever really wanted to know.  I'm a bit surprised to hear that the trouble is occuring with the UNDI though.

Switch to the Intel driver.  Don't use the one that comes with Ghost, and don't use the one that comes from Dell.  Go directly to Intel and download the DOS/NDIS driver.  Once you do that, run the Ghost Boot Wizard, and create a new NIC template - don't try updating the existing one.  Call it 82566DM-2-200804022.  That way, you can make yet-another new template as needed when a new version of the driver comes out again.  I admit, it gets messy, but it makes it easier to keep track of which driver works best for me.

Other than that, of course, make sure you haven't locked your NIC into 100Mbit, or the switch it's connected to, the cabling is up to the task, etc.

    Good luck,
    PH

    Configuration:

    Flat lan at 172.200.1.1-ect

new 755 with microsoft xp w/ vmware workstation 6, first time user

2 virtual machines with XP SP2 no patches.

they are using dhcp from my dhcp server

when I boot my ghost disk which works non VM wise I get:

    Intell(R) Pro/1000 network connection drive v5.02 013007

    copyright 2000-2007, intel corp

Error: unable to locate PCI LAN Adapter

    the follwoing are possible causes

    1. The system may not support the PCI bus

    2. The PCI adapter may not be properly installed in a slot

    3. Some of the PCI adapter resources in the configuration may be invalid.

Check for possible errors listed above and run adapter diagnosics.

Failure: Driver did not load, NDIS environment invalid.

the first posting seemed to have good ideas but the new posting seemed to have the same problem.  Any suggestings would be greatly appreciated.

I was able to get this to work on an Optiplex 755 / Intel 82566DM-2 with PXE enabled in the bios AFTER flashing to the A11 version.    Older versions of the BIOS would not work.  Even with PXE enabled.

Just for those who are still looking. We switched to the 755 as our default workstation and the Intel driver works.
