This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hello. I'm looking to upgrade my current Console and clients from version 11.0.3001.2224 to the new 11.0.4202.75 (MP4mr2) release. I am only using the AV, Antispyware and Proactive Threat Protection.

I did a couple tests and pushed the 4202 client to XP, Vista, Vista x64 and Server 2008 through the 3001.2224 console. They all appear in the console and everything looks fine.. is it?

I'd like to push the 4202 client to all the machines, then update the console to MP4 then immediately to MP4MR2. WIll there be anything bad happening if I upgrade it this way?

Thank you for the help!

Bob

always upgrade the SEPm

always upgrade the SEPm first, then you can upgrade the clients to the latest available version.
The migration path MR 3 to MR 4. MR 4 to MR 4 MP 2.

 I would suggested upgrade

I would suggested upgrade the manager first then upgrade the client from the manager.

Upgrade the SEPM frist to MR4 & then MR4 MP2

Hi,

Upgarde the Manager first to MR4 & then to MR4 MP2 then you can upgarde the clients because the Meta databse table of MR4 is diccerent than MR3 hence if your clients are on MR4 & the manager is on MR3 then it can cause a database fauilure.

Its OK

Nothing BAD will happen..you can manage MR4Mp2 clients from Mr3 console..but it is recommended to stay up to date with the MRs and MPs on both SEPM and SEP

Uprdaing to MR4 MP2

Hi first take the Backup of the SEPM Database

Secondly Upgrade the the SEPm to MR4 and then Upgrade it MR4 MP2

Then upgrade the groups with the Packages. If you want you can customise it with AV and AS only or all the features.

But as you told earlier that right now you are using any AV and AS so be carefull while upgrading to all the features as after upgrading to all the features it may restart the client without any notification for NTP.

Warm regards,
Sumit Bose

This upgrade went SMOOTH

Just had to post this because there are so many negative comments (of course, if there wasn't a problem, there wouldn't be a need for the forum to begin with, but...)

I just finished the Manager upgrade from 11.0.30001.2224 to MR4 and then to MR4mp2 and everything went PERFECT. Created the installation package, added it to the groups, and ALL clients updated properly, and NOBODY noticed. Not one call about it, not one issue caused by it.

This was a BIG WIN for Symantec. I've basically had a "loathe-hate" relationship for Symantec products (I'll never use the firewall), but this has upgraded my feelings to a "hate-dislike" relationship.

:)
