12.1 Basic vs Full Package - Pro's and Cons?

Created: 13 Dec 2012 | 8 comments

Hi,

We have some low bandwidth sites, so considering creating a BASIC package rather than  exporting the FULL package.

Is this just the client install minus the virus defs?

Are the clients still placed in the folder I specify on the export screen?

what other things are stripped out?  Policy config until it checks in?

Any pro's/con's ou guys have seen?  Thank You

Full will include AV/AS, PTP and NTP

Basic will provide AV/AS.

Is this just the client install minus the virus defs? YES

Are the clients still placed in the folder I specify on the export screen? YES

what other things are stripped out?  Policy config until it checks in? its exported with the policy as well , it will take defs when it talks to the manager

For workstations go with full, for servers start with basic and add you can add components if you need to after testing

Oh, right - so wont actually include NTP and PTP?

This is a little confusing...

In 12.1 I have created all my install feature and settings already that incluide all components.

When I go to Export screen (already specifiying all componentns) - I have option for full or basic:

Are we talking about the same thing guys?

Thanks guys.

No, this is different. Content refers to the updates...if you include all, than each component will come with updated defs and will not need to go out to LiveUpdate. The package will be larger.

Basic content just includes smaller content which cause the package to be smaller but will need to go out to LiveUpdate to update defs the first time.

Looks like we are talking about different things. Just to the left of the select content window in the screenshot there is a drop down menu under "Select the security features for this package". This option will change what feature sets are installed.

The option that you are looking at is changing if the install package includes the latest definitions or not. If you select basic then the install package will be smaller in size and the client will download the latest definitions after it installs.

If I was able to help resolve your issue please mark my post as solution.

hopefully this helps

with no content it is good when you upgrade as the clients already have the content only the package needs to be upgraded.

a-ha makes perfect sense now.

We have GUPs configured so testing today whether with basic content they will pick up defs.
