  • 1.  12/15/2011 Windows Update and WDE Blue Screen?

    Posted Dec 14, 2011 09:13 AM

I am merely posting this in ase it is more than a coincidence.

Testing yesterdays WIndows updates on my Win 7 Pro 64 bit with PGP WDE client from Universal Server 3.2.0 MP1 (Build 1950), I get a blue screen immediately following the Win 7 splash screen.

It may very well just be a coincidence.

I just wanted to post this in case anyone else runs into it, someone else has noted it here.

Can you confirm that you installed KB2393802 ??

We are tracking a bug for this case.

    Hi,

Could you elaborate on "We are tracking a bug for this case." please?

I have just installed the updates released this week (but not rebooted after installation). I had previously installed KB2393802 as part of an earlier update batch. If I restart will it cause the problem reported by the original poster?

    Regards,

    Achelon

I have had reports of this as well and currently have 2393802 declined on our WSUS environment. I have also heard reports that logging into a local machine account that is not an enrolled user and removing the most recently deployed patches resolves the issue...

    More information to come..

    Thanks...

We have been seeing the same behavior on some of our laptops. After the Windows updates are installed and right after the user authenticates with the bootgurad screen, Windows goes into the recovery mode and then crashes. Did Symantec ellaborate on this any further? It seems to happen randomly.

Has this issue been resolved to your satisfaction yet?

We now have 10.2 MP4 out. It includes several fixes for BSOD issues on Windows XP and Windows 7. Most of which are related to using the SSO (Single sign on) features of Whole Disk Encryption.

I would look at the KB that Julian posted about and ensure that if you have an Intel Graphics chip, that you have the latest "known to work" driver. But I would also make sure that you upgrade to PGP Universal Server 3.2 MP4 and 10.2 MP4 for PGP Desktop and then try it out again. Since many of these BSOD issues are fixed with this new version.
