This issue has been solved. See solution.

I just resolved the issue where my backup was failing with 58...What i found is 127.0.0.1 localhoat entry absent in hosts file of the client server...Why nbu requires this entry when actual ip hostname is present in hosts file...how OS and NBU uses it?

You should have a loopback address regardless if you are using Netbackup are not.

Definition: The IP address 127.0.0.1 is a special purpose address reserved for use on each computer. 127.0.0.1 is conventionally a computer's loopback address.

As far as SAP you do not need a seperate agent , however a license is required.
