2008 R2 fails to start after SEP 11.0.5 install

On a couple of 2008 R2 servers, I have tried installing the SEP 11.0.5 client. The client installs correctly, however when I reboot the server hangs on startup at a black screen (after the initial Windows logo and loading bar).

If I boot up under Last Known Good Configuration, I can get back into the system (without the SEP services running). If I reboot again normally, the server hangs. The event logs do not show any evidence of an attempted start, so I assume the issue that hangs the server occurs before the event log service starts. Is anyone else having this issue?

Server Hang

In this case try to boot in safe mode and then modify the features of SEP installed on this machine. Keep only the Antivirus & Antispyware feature, remove the PTP & NTP feature and then restart the machine in Normal mode and check whether you are able to boot to the desktop.

You cannot modify

You cannot modify SEP features from Safe Mode in 2008 R2. You receive the message:

"The Windows Install service is not accessible in Safe Mode. Please try again when your computer is not in Safe Mode or you can use System Restore to return your machine to a previous good state."

I rebooted into "Last Known Good Configuration" mode, and when I went to modify the SEP install the only feature that was installed was "Antivirus and Antispyware Protection" and "Core Files" - everything else had a red cross next to it.

I should note that the install package I used to install the client had "Only Antivirus and Antispyware" selected in "Select the features you want to use" when I was exporting it to the network install point.

Any other ideas?
