  • 1.  Is 4 < 10? Apparently not in Symantec World

    Posted Dec 07, 2010 12:43 PM

This morning, I tried submitting some suspicious files to Symantec for analysis.  As usual, I put these files in a ZIP archive.  A few minutes later I got this response:

    Dear Symantec Customer,

Thank you for submitting your files to Symantec.

Due to the large volume of customer submissions to Symantec and in order to minimize our response time to you, we cannot accept more than 10 files per submission. Please try resubmitting with fewer files.

I can understand why Symantec might have that limit.  But the ZIP file I submitted contained only 4 (four) files.  So why was it rejected?  Is "10" in base-2 notation?

Are you submitting to retail?  Submit the files to ThreatExpert if submitting to Symantec fails. Symantec owns TE.

    Hi,

Did you by chance get a submission number? If so let me have it and I'll gladly take a look for you.

It is possible that the threat you have submitted would be packaged and would contain more files in it..

I've been submitted to retail because I've never been able to get the Basic Maintenance/Essential Support site to accept my submissions, even when I supply a valid support number.

I'll try ThreatExpert and see what happens.

Are you using the correct URL for basic?

    https://submit.symantec.com/websubmit/basic.cgi

Threat Expert will work as an alternative.

    Hi Mitch (and thread),

If you have a valid contract, I strongly encourage you to use its corresponding portal for submissions.  These will be analyzed with a higher priority than the Retail submissions and a mail will be sent to you with the analysis notes.  Mails are not sent for Retail submissions.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Mick
