40+ hour multicast session for 1 pc
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 16 comments
Hello,
I am out of ideas so I thought I would post here.
We have new NX6325 HP Compaq Laptops that we are trying to ghost.
When you try and push the image useing multicast it drops to under 6mb a minute and goes up to 40 hours....
I have tired 3 different drivers, I have also plugged this unit directly into a gigabit switch still the same issue.
Also Pulling an image is about a 2 hour project...
by the way we have the intel version of the NX6325 and they seem to work fin 20min for a push....
Any ideas would be good.

Some more information.
We tried a PXE boot and it ran really well up to 7% then started dropping speed and now is at 9% running at 21mb a minute and over 2 hours of push time left.
More info I have tired unicast, multicast, directed... all fly at 400MB until it hits about 210-216MB transmitted then it drops speed severly until it hovers <25MB/m
I also have tired the -noide switch... no help...
Anyone have any idea?Message was edited by:

No ideas here, you seem to have tried most of the obvious things. I've discussed this with our QA guys and if this is happening that repeatably for you it sounds like we'll need to get some similar hardware - I don't think we have any machines in our labs based on that particular model of ATI chipset, so we're going to have to get hold of one and see what we can figure out.
Is there someone I should call to work with them on this?
Hi Zach,
If you create an image to another drive (even a imaging a partition to another partition in the same drive) does it go faster?
If that is the case, could you try multicast running Ghost with -ffx switch?
Krish
I tried the -ffx switch in the ghostcast server command line and got nothing. Is there somewhere else I need to be setting this? Is there anyway I can reach you directly. We are not opposed to helping resolve this issue by talking on the phone and maybe sending a laptop in for evaluation. Right now they are usless to us.

Hi Zach,
Thanks for offering to send the equipment, but in the mean time we managed to get the same model, hope it is not too different to yours.
-noide switch worked well with PXE boot in my case, with Ghost 8.3. I managed to restore the image within about 20 minutes using PXE boot. I tried creating a CDROM with BC57xx driver (using Ghost boot Wizard) and thought it is marginally faster than PXE.
Could you try the BC57xx driver with CDROM boot? What version of Ghost do you use?
When you use -noide switch, did you use it in multicast server or in the Ghost.exe command line? If you haven't done this already, could you try running Ghost with the -noide switch? (i.e. Ghost -noide)
Krish
Not being wholly familiar with that model of HP, do you see any setting in the BIOS to change the hard disk mode from SATA mode to "Compatible", on my Intel based HP notebooks with SATA HDD, this led to the highest speed and most reliable Ghostcasting experience.
Hope it is applicable to that model.
Cheers,
Alex
the -noide switch if we custom built a PXE works! Thank you guys so much pulled in image in about 6 minutes!!!!Message was edited by:

Hello Krish, i got the same exactly the same problem like zach. How did he fixed it. Your help will really be appreciated. you can e-mail me at zapatatech@gmail.com
Hi Eramso,
Do you have the same hardware as Zach? What kind of hardware do you use?
If we can't get a solution easily, I will contact you.
Krish
We are having the same issue but using ghost.exe and HP nx6325 (AMD X2 processor, 60gig sata) & PXE.... could you provide the solution please?
Hey Krish, its cool, I just put the switch -noide under parameters when making the boot cd and it worked fine after that. The laptop started to clone after this. the hard ware was the exact same laptop as zach's. thanks Krish
hey simon, trying going to the different switches that ghost has. there is a ghost reference guide with all of them. I would try the -noide switch first and go from there. if you need any help email me. laters
Hello, we are having the same problem. We are using Ghost Solution Suite 2.0. We have the hp nx 3625 with amd mobile sempron. We have tried the driver solution as Zach has and also tried the -noide switch. Please help if possible.
I've tried all the solutions listed above with no good results using GSS 2.0 and the 6325.
Tried shutting off the DMS transfer in the BIOS and the imaging won't sstart.
Tried Making a floppy set with the latest BC Netlink NDIS drivers.
Tired -noide --fnx -fro -ffi and -fni switches to no avail.
Really need help on this one cause we have 30 of these to image.
