  • 1.  64-bit computers - offline update virus database

    Posted Oct 01, 2009 01:34 PM
I have a server running Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition 10.1.5.
I have installed the clients remotely (there are 32 and 64-bit computers)  from this server. The problem is about update the virus database. That network have no access to the internet nor the server nor the clients. I have done it by downloading a .xdb file through ftp site. I noticed that the server and the 32-bit clients updated the virus database, but the 64-bit computers didn't do that.

The problem is that those computers don't have access to the internet, so I have to find a solution to the 64-bit computers to get the update virus database from a file, an offline update. And the way the 32-bit computers do, update from the server.

    Thank you in advance.

Go to http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=savce and download the file from

Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition installations on Windows platforms (64-bit)

The XDB file only updates 32 bit computers.  64 bit client computers can also be updated via Intelligent Updater...you'll want to download and use the i64.exe Intelligent Updater file.

You can download this from http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=savce.

This links talk about the 'Managing 64-bit clients with Symantec System Center' but in this case client take update from Symantec server

In that case you have to downlaod the IU 20091001-002-i64.exe | and install it on the client

You can go for internal liveupdate server. This server will download updates for your 32 bit and 64 bit clients and the clients can update from this server. You can use below article for configuring it

After configuring LUA you can create Settings.Host.LiveUpdate file or liveupdt.hst file and copy to \Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate" directory on the LiveUpdate client computers. When the LiveUpdate client runs, it will use the host file for information on where to download updates
