    Hello,

I'm trying to capture and deploy Joli OS which is actually a Ubuntu variant from what I read.  I haven't been successful using rdeploy but if I try using Ghost I get much farther but I get an error stating that it seems like the volume looks like it hasn't been unmounted successfully and that I should use fsck.  I had it shut down correctly and I tried to use fsck but I couldn't do it within the OS..........I'm clearly not that familiar with Linux.  If I continue anyways it captures an image that is about 36kb.

How can I successfully capture/deploy Linux since it has so many weird and crazy partitions/volumes?

    DS 6.9 SP5

    WinPE2.1 PXE

Try to use linux automation instead of WinPE for capturing image from Linux machine.

Linux Automation has almost no support anymore, especially in drivers.  Can't expect people to use it when it's not supported and updated.  The automation type shouldn't matter.......only the capturing tool.

There is no difference in support wise if it's linux or WinPE. Neither is developed/supported by Symantec if it comes to drivers. Either one you would add your own drivers, in WinPE it's just a little easier if you are not familiar with linux.

However still, using linux automation to capture linux would be better as sometimes WinPE does not handle linux filesystem very well and will cause problems.

    Acjuelich,

I have not used DS6.9. But you can use -IAL switch in 'additional parameters' with ghost to take sector by sector image of disk. As in sector by sector mode ghost does not read filesystem just captures the image irrespective of filesystem type.

You can try this switch if you can do with sector by sector image.

    Thanks

Yes that's one possibility, but in this case the image size would be huge.

Yes, true. The image will be huge & it can be restored on disk having size same or larger than image.

    -Thanks
