Hi all, just wondering if anyone have a test plan , check list , watch out list, what to verify after upgrade etc that can be used a starting point? I did see few hints here and there but did not come across a something that can get me going.

    Agreed on Joe's comment.

A few then i do post upgrade:

    • Check that all plug-in upgrade policies are enabled, this usually gets disabled after an upgrade
    • Run the agent version report to see that agents are upgrading successfully
    • Ensure all site servers and upgraded and check the versions on the actual agent, make sure that are functional as Task service or Package Service if used.
    • Then sit and gaze at the SMP log viewer to spot any funnys that might pop up and try and resolve them :)

    Goodluck

back up your images prior to updating.  They move locations and not all of mine made it to the new location.

If you use custom sysprep .xml files, back those up too.  I just realized mine were lost when upgrading to SP1.

Have you read the Installation and Upgrade guide (DOC6847)?  This document should be your main guide in preparing for and performing the upgrade.  That document and many others are indexed here:

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=DOC7440

Note:  If you use DS, be prepared for some pain.

I also recommend installing the latest hotfix (currently HF4).

Rick Barnes from ITS also shared a very detailed CMS migration checklist during the 7.5 user summit last year.  You can find that in the ZIP file posted here:  https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/75-summit-november-2013-implementing-cms-presentation.   I think the video of that session is posted somewhere too.

    Thanks, JoeVan.

Yes, the videos from the 7.5 User Summit are available here:

    http://video.symantec.com/services/player/bcpid2947612088001?bckey=AQ~~,AAAACltotjE~,tv_QJdXkOoerwW8ezQ3qWkVdFUSVfdO4

There are tabs across the top that you can click on to access each of the sessions/labs. For the Rick Barnes from ITS session, click on the one called "Implementing CMS 7.5" and then you can click on the chapters to navigate through the session just like a DVD.

    Hope that helps.

Thank you so much all, luckily we are not using DS so seems like less pain what I read so far.

    Hi,

Please note: always upgrade site-servers first, then upgrade the clients. Site servers with new versions of site services can work with legacy clients if "Legacy Agent Communication" mode is on on NS (All Settings -> Notification Server -> Notification Server Settings").

    Thank you,

    Alex.
