  • 1.  7.5 Patch Management - Flash 12

    Will Patch Management upgrade Flash 11 to Flash 12 or does that need to be done via Managed Software policy?

    If Patch can't handle it, which I believe was the case from 10 to 11, it'd be nice to give customers that option.

    Patch would only take care on Patches but updating a Software would need Software Management Solution and can be used using Software Delivery with Detection Rules

    It looks like my clients with flash 11 are falling into scope to get flash 12 via patch. Score!  Thanks!

    Flash 11 > 12 is a "major version" change.  I was certain that patch will not upgrade major versions, only minor versions like 11.8 > 11.9. 

    Sally, your finding has me concerned.

    It has me happy. Don't break it until I get it to all my users at least!  I'm not sure what constitutes Flash's versioning... Isn't it just continued security patches and improvements.  I've never seen a flash upgrade break something.

    I agree with everything you said but it just makes me question whether or not this behavior applies to other products.  I'd hate to find out on accident.

    agree... it'd be nice if there was an option.  It's way easier for us to push something with good command like options (like flash/chrome) than using managed software policy.. even for 'major version' changes.  

    I only wish Java's command line options were as helpful.

    smileyIn the past you were right but since we upgraded to 7.5, it has updated so far most of my Flash 11 users to version 12. This was just turned on today so I will continue monioring. I am very very happy about that.

    I would like to clarify current  logic in patching of Adobe Flash that we have in Patch Data 7.1.511:
     
    - If Adobe Flash 10 or less is installed on client machine, the latest available Adobe Flash 11 update(version 11.9.900.170) will be detected as missing in Compliance reports.
    So if you want to update  Adobe Flash 10 (or less) to the latest version of Adobe Flash 11 you need to have enabled SWU policy with bulletin APSB13-28. Please note that the latest Adobe Flash 11 updates(version 11.9.900.170) are not superseded by Adobe Flash 12 updates anymore, so enabled checkbox "Disable all superseded Software Updates" should not disable them. 
     
    - If Adobe Flash 11( less than 11.9.900.170) is installed on Client machine, the latest available Adobe Flash 11 will be detected as missing AND the latest available Adobe Flash 12 updates will be detected as missing in Compliance reports. so you may choose what version of Adobe Flash(11 or 12) you want to deploy.
     
    - If Adobe Flash 11.9.900.170 is installed on client machine, it will be shown as Installed in Compliance reports and the latest available Adobe flash 12 updates will be detected as missing in Compliance report.
