7.5 PMImport failing last few days - bad hash?

Created: 23 Apr 2014 • Updated: 29 Apr 2014 | 4 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

Has anyone else been experiencing the following?

On 7.5, PMImport has been failing the last few days.  I checked the Altiris log viewer and found the following:

  • Shows download of extract.exe from solutionsam is finished.
    "23/04/2014 10:23:03 AM","Finished download [from:'http://www.solutionsam.com/imports/7_1/patch/windows/Tools/Extract.exe' to:'E:\Program Files\Altiris\Patch Management\Downloads\Tools\Extract.exe' task:Import Patch Data for Windows time:00:00:00.2340015]","Altiris.PatchManagementCore.Tasks.Server.DownloadObjectTask`2.DownloadFile","AtrsHost.exe","200","Informational"

  • Next entry shows that the hash of the Extract.exe is invalid
    "23/04/2014 10:23:03 AM","WindowsImportTask.DownloadPackageFiles() - Invalid hash of 'Tools\Extract.exe' file, will retry...","PMC:WindowsImportTask.DownloadPackageFiles","AtrsHost.exe","200","Warnings"

  • Retries download again

  • Then We see the full failure, thus ending PMImport in failure
    "23/04/2014 10:23:04 AM","Failed to update Tools\Extract.exe

Is there something wrong on SolutionSam site?  Or is there something wrong with my server suddenly?

Is this just my server?  Or is there something wrong on Solution Sam?

Thanks,

Yes, we just started getting the above error on our server today.

Greetings,

Found this has been caused by a 'WebSense' update that restricts the download from SolutionSam. Please exclude the SolutionSam site from any network security software and that should resolve the issue.

Run WireShark, or any other network tracing software, and isolate the reason for restricting this executable download.

Hope this helps,

Joshua

I can confirm that websense is the culprit.  I have submitted a request to our network team to have solutionsam.com added as exception.

I will reply again when it's confirmed working.

Thanks,

Websense seems to have recategorized solutionsam now, after we submitted a change request to them.  They claim they recategorized in their master DB, so should help everyone with this trouble.

PMImport completed successfully overnight as a result :)
