Have you tried the steps in the following Article. We do not have Altiris agent on Linux so I dont know if this works or not. I am merely posting a URL to an article I found.

    http://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/how-install-altiris-agent-ubuntu

    Hi TeleFragger.

Altiris only have full support in two linux distributions (Red Hat and Suse), but of course, there are some articles on the connect which shows how to install the altiris agent on Ubuntu, etc.

I'm attaching the Agent support matrix for you. (Page 27 to 31) -  http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO9965

To install the agent, I suggest you to use the push method. In the push agents to Windows screen there is another tab called "Install Agent for Unix, Linux and Mac". It's much easier use this method than the command line. But if you want to use the command line, I'm also attaching another article which will help you. http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO54203

    Regards,

@John - I have followed a few and spent 2hrs before posting so Ill check that out and see if it is one of the ones I saw...thx

@fernando - yes I tried the push method but it fails - think has to do with SSH disabled. Tried enabling it but you have to DL distros and my company is blocking it. so figured manually... will try the commands there

    Hi TeleFragger.

I think you need the SSH enabled, like in MAC computers. Also are you using and Administrator local account to push the agent?

I guess it is not about 7.6 agent, but 8.0 HF3 instead.

Make sure that NS is visible from client side -  check ping by server name /nslookup server name from cleint side.

    Thanks,

So can you try to download one of the files from URL you see in terminal using curl/wget ?

    Like curl -O http://server/.../Linux/x64/agent-upgrade

Take a look if /opt/altiris/notification/nsagent/ directory was created. Look if there is something in .tmp_inst file.

    Thanks,

    AndreiF

Under downloads you have a bootstrap,m that you have downloaded through browser?

Directories and files(cainfo.pem, cainfo-merged.pem) are generated by aex-bootstrap, after you have launched it.

As bootstrap internally uses libcurl to download files, hence I guess it faces same issue with bad proxy.

Take a look if your system have some curl specific variables defined, like http_proxy, HTTPS_PROXY etc.

Commands like set/env can help you to find these. Also take a look into /etc/profile if these are defined there. If you have these try to unset them and laucnh bootstrap again.

    Thanks,
