  • 1.  9.5.2-3 VMware DR not able to take snapshot

    I have noticed that since I have upgraded to 9.5.2-3 of SMG, VMware DR is unable to successfully take a snapshot of the virtual machine.  It errors out with "failed to create snapshot, error -3960 (cannot quiesce virtual machine).  The following errors appear in the VM's log:

    Oct 19 06:49:08.499: vcpu-2| Vix: [117750 guestCommands.c:2488]: Error VIX_E_UNRECOGNIZED_COMMAND_IN_GUEST in VMAutomationTranslateGuestRpcError(): Tools failed to recognize guest command op code=4, result string="Unknown Command".

    Oct 19 06:49:08.509: vcpu-2| Vix: [117750 guestCommands.c:2488]: Error VIX_E_UNRECOGNIZED_COMMAND_IN_GUEST in VMAutomationTranslateGuestRpcError(): Tools failed to recognize guest command op code=87, result string="Unknown Command".

    Is there a problem with the VMTools for linux in this version?

    I am running VMware 4.1.0 348481 with VDR 1.2.1.1616.

    The vmtools is very bare-bones on these appliances, we only load the drivers that are needed.

    This is not supported and is expected behaviour. Please see this document:
