About Backing up the data on the LUN

Dear everyone,

I have one Lun assigned for Server A. There are a lot of data inside. I want to do the Backup Job. In order to speed up backup, I come up with idea about attaching LUN to the Backup Server. Therefore the Backup Server could directly access to the data from the LUN.

But I tried it, it seems that it is not working. The Lun data shared between 2 servers could not be the same. What shall I do? Do I need special agent in the BE? Do I need special software?

Sincerely!

Jacky

You can't just make a LUN on

You can't just make a LUN on a SAN avail to another Windows host.  That is a great way to corrupt the partition or data.

What kind of data, and what kind of throught and times are you looking at currently?

You have a few choices.
1.  Off host backup if your SAN device is supported.  This requires the Advanced Disk Based Option
2.  Make the client machine into a media server, so that it can back itself up over the SAN to some (hopefully) shared tape library with the SSO option...

There is an online portal, save yourself the long hold times. Create ticket online, then call in with ticket # in hand :-) http://mysupport.symantec.com "We backup data to restore, we don't backup data just to back it up."
