  • 1.  About serveur replication and partnership

    Hi,

I was wondering about something with replication and partners.

In a situation where i have a main SEPM, if i had a replication partner, the database will be duplicated onto the partner.

On the partner i can see all clients and so (if i've well understood the process)

Is it possible from the partner to move the client to be "attached" to him ?

If so, when all clients are attached to the partner server, it s safe to remove the main server and the partner would become main ?

I'm still thinking about my upgrade that failled 3 times (from 11.0.7 to 12.1) even with help from symantec support, i gave up as it's a production server.

I was planning to add a new partner (say server2 and server1 is main) then move clients to server2.

Reinstall a server1 as fresh 12.1 then upgrade server2 to 12.1 and do a new replication and finally move clients back from server2 to server1

Why migrating the new server ? Because i did that, and it worked, exept that all clients were on server1

I mean, i added a partner, waited (hours!!) to replication ends. The remove partnership and upgraded the partner.

No errors, LU working and so.

I hope you understood what i mean :)

I know this might look weird, but this is the only solution i see (also waiting for the next RU)

    Thanks !

Yes, you should create a Management server list ans set thr priority accordingly.

    Yes.

    Hi Yannick Faven,

Could you please confirm number of clients in network ?

Question - Is it possible from the partner to move the client to be "attached" to him ?

If so, when all clients are attached to the partner server, it s safe to remove the main server and the partner would become main ?

--> Yes it's possible but there is one drawback as well i.e because if you do replication and remove the old server that is the Primary SEPM , in future if you want to do replication you will not be able to do so.

    Check this Article:  https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/replication-and-considerations

If you have less number of clients why don't you use Sylink replacer tool. It will point all the clients to the new Server.

Please go through following thread for more details :

I hope it will help you !!

Network divided with VLANs and geograficly (not sure about this word ...) on 6 differents sites (1 main LAN and 5 WAN connected with GUPs)

I did use sylink replacer, and i ended by writing a small vbs that queries my AD, verify if host is online et replace the sylink. Id did that because i wanted to control which computer will be assigned to a particular group and had his policy applied. With this script i was able to determine on wich netwwork the computer is and use the right sylink for this particular group. (This was before i went to the SEP course and discover location awareness of SEP)

    Will read yourr links :)

    Thanks Chetan :)
