  • 1.  Access denied after upgrading 7.1 to 7.5 SP1 HF5

    Posted May 08, 2015 09:14 AM

Ok I am not usually one needing urgent help but today (of course Friday) I am as I have just upgraded our environment from 7.1 SP2 MP 1.1 to 7.5 SP1 HF5.

All went well but my client computers are not upgrading the Inventory Agent. I went to the server and logged in... I cant bring up the Altiris console on the server as I get a Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

from my client computer I can get into the console but on policies I get an Access Denied. I can get to other items as I enabled the upgrade agents policies under agent settings. Things are acting strange so I know it is going to be something obscure.

On a client machine I see the inventory agent is sitting at a Waiting to retry download...

I double clicked on inventory plug-in fo windows upgrade

    clicked download history tab

and I can click on any of the 3 source locations and get access denied.

is this an IIS or server OS permissions issue?

    thanks... sorry bit obscure...7.5-Rights.png

    Hi TeleFragger,

Did you make sure that Package Server is upgraded to latest version and has downloaded/updated all packages? Also run "NS.PackageRefresh" scheduled task on NS to update all new packages after upgrade.

After upgrade PS receives policy to download new( updated) packages, such as "Inventory Agent" package, because its version is changed from 7.x to latest 7.5.x, after that PS should send status "ready" for new downloaded packages to NS.

    Thanks,

    IP.

so i have been on a call with a symantec rep and we didnt get anywhere...

since this is the NS.. there are no PS... so none to upgrade...

still seems to be permissions somewhere...

Have you tried logging in and running the console with the Service Account ("App identitiy)? Have you checked the log files, especially around the install time?

ok so had a ticket in with symantec... few issues we found... not sure which actually fixed it but im gonna guess 1. did..

    1. State codebase... had me go in and delete certain snapshot.xml then recreate... that may have been what the issue was.

    2. also had an issue where most policies were good but some also gave access denied. Turns out we clone the Symantec Administrators group and during the upgrade changes get made to Symantec Administrators but does not know about our custom roles thus had to re-clone and resetup. Makes sense...

Still have one other issue and not sure what gives but will start a new thread as it doesnt fit here...

good to go as my access denied was due to cloned systems administrators roles do not get updated during upgrades. Thus I need to reclone anytime we do an upgrade.
