Access Server in Altiris
Created: 12 Mar 2010 | 2 comments
Hi all,
I am thinking of using the pcAnywhere Access Server in Altiris 7.0.
The objective is that i am able to remote control clients that are overseas.
As long as they have an internet connection, they will dock to my access server and i am able to control his machine.
I am thinking of using port 80 for users to connect to the access server.
Is this workable?
Have anyone tried before and can give me some advice or headstart?
Thanks in advance.

PcAnywhere access server uses
PcAnywhere access server uses the standard PcAnywhere ports 5631 and 5632 by default. While these can be modified, there is a still a requirement for two ports to be open if you wish to connect to the AS from outside.
If you wish to implement AS, I would advise opening the 5631/5632 ports (or other ports if configured, but 80 is not recommended as any attempted http connection would potentially be passed to AS) on your firewall. Then redirect traffic connecting to these ports to your Access Server on the DMZ. Remote machines will then be able to enter the IP of your firewall as that of the AS to connect to. Make sure to secure Access to the AS using a strong password. If possible, a whitelist of allowed IP addresses would also increase security.
Users that we require to
Users that we require to remote control are mostly overseas, say they stay in hotel, accessing internet from hotel.
Although VPN can be used but sometimes not accessiable through the hotel internet.
Therefore we need to use a port that is common and so we can provide assistance via remote control.
In a way which is if they are able to connect to internet, it will dock to our AS and we are able to control and give assistance.
Is this achievable via AS?
In altiris, pcanywhere AS settings, there is only 1 port i can set. what about the second port that you are referring? Where can i set that port?
Are you able to direct me to any documents? Security is definately a factor that we need to oversome.
Thanks in advance.
Chris
