  • 1.  Accidentally revoked key during drive encryption

I started to encrypt a pretty large disk and during the prrocess, revoked a key I thought I wasn't using.  Right away I saw I had accidentally revoked the key that was the only key associated with the drive being encrypted.  I have tried to add a user to the drive, but it won't recognize the passphrase for the drive now.  I am unable to add a user or decrypt now.  Is there any way I can save the encryption process by un-revoking my key or adding another user somehow?  I did not back up the key as it was a brand new one I just made today before doing this.  Not sure if it is recoverable some other way.  It would take days to get the data back on this drive if I have to start over, any helo would be a life saver.

I got impatient and just wiped the drive and am starting all over now.  So I don't really need an answer to the question any more, unless someone has a simple solution that might help in the future.

    Hello,

Did you encrypt internal drive or external drive. If you were encrypting internal drive, it would always get encrypted with the passphrase and not the key so even if key gets revoked you do not have to worry.

If virtual disk or email encryption was being used, your revoked key would be able to access the virtual disk and mails that were previously encypted with it however if you want to encrypt new mails drives, it would not do that and you would have to create new key.
