    I have an image that installs just fine.  The aclient starts on its own, like its supposed to.  When I run windows update to get the latest updates, and reboot the aclient does not start automatically.  I can go into services and start it manually just fine.  The event log gives some generic error about it not responding in a timely fashion.  Any ideas?

    What version of DS?

    Also enable logging and post your log file?

    Version 6.9 (Build 164)

    since the service didn't start on its own, the log was empty until I manually started it.

    If you reinstall AClient does it still not start?

    I didn't notice a difference when I ran the install again, but how do I uninstall it?  It doesn't show up in add/remove programs.

    c:\program files\altiris\aclient\aclient -remove

    Then re-install by either pushing or manually installing.

    From a command prompt go to the AClient folder and run aclient /remove or just right click on the computer in the console go to advanced then uninstall agent.

    Uninstall/reinstall did not work.  I am going to push out an older image that works and try to figure out which of the 33 newest microsoft updates is causing the problem

    Let us know how it goes. I'm thinking that if it was one of those MS updates then many more people would be seeing this same issue, me included.

    the problem was Internet Explorer 7.  I uninstalled it and AClient started just fine again.  IE7 also caused the pc to hang on updating computer settings and running startup scripts for over 15 minutes.  I tried to install it outside of windows updates and it did the same thing.  I am now trying to go straight to IE8 and see how that goes.

    That seems really strange for IE7 to do that to you. There has to be some other variable that comes into play for you because I would thing that 95% or more of the people with DS have IE7 on their clients and I never heard of this happening.
    Hopefully IE8 works for you.

    IE8 doesn't work either.  Same problem.

    I was looking at this line of your log file...

    bServiceStartupTypeAutomatic = 1, sleep time = 60 seconds.

    When I look at a log file on one of my clients it says...

    bServiceStartupTypeAutomatic = 0, Not Sleeping.

    Is it possible that somehow the service is set to a Automatic(Delayed) instead of just Automatic?
