Activate 'Keep Files in Layer' by default?
Hi everyone
I've got a question regarding SWV. There's a new function called 'Keep Files in Layer'. As far as I tested our current virtual apps, this is a great improvement. In SVS with apps that work in conjunction with Office some files (like Office templates) keep escaping the layer. When I activate this new function in SWV, the files stay in the layer (as expected) so the computer stays clean too.
Is it recommended to activate this function by default or is it activated by default? What would be the drawback?
Thanks for your input, in advance.
Roland
Deny Layer "Integration"
Hi Roland,
What comes in mind would be if two virtual applications (layers) uses the same file to "talked" to each other. Then I would say it would be a bad candidate for having this new feature active.
I haven't had the time to test SWV yet but is 'Keep Files in Layer' set per layer or as a global configuration?
Layer setting
Hi AngelD
Thanks for your answer. This new function is a layer specific setting. You're probably right and it might make sense to set it on specific layers only.
I would look at what
I would look at what interacts with the layer. It's it's something where apps on the base will be interacting with I would lock it, same with apps in layers but you need to check to see if the apps will open for write or if they only access read only.
I can't think of any negative from locking a layer by default unless you are using a data layer or you want something to go to the base but this is a new feature so until we see how people are using it I can't say there isn't any negatives for doing so.
