Active Cache file error

Hi ,

Job failed with the below to proceed on this

V-79-57344-34080 - AOFO: Initialization failure on: "F:". Advanced Open File Option used: Symantec Volume Snapshot Provider (VSP) for Windows Server 2000 only. Snapshot provider error (0xE0008520): Device could not be snapped because it contains an active cache file. Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.

what is a active cache file ? i checked in event viewer but could not find anything , the server is a windows 2000 server.Is there any particular event id for that in the event viewer.

Alternative ways to access Backup Exec Technical Support:

After enabling Symantec VSP and running the jobs, for 2 weeks the jobs ran successfully without errors.,then the above error came up.

Now the symantec tech guy is asking me to enable veritas storage foundation for windows flagship option,is that a workaround for the above issue.

Can that option be used without having the SFW license/the software installed on the remote server ?

A virus scanner running during the backup may be causing the conflict. See this link to help resolve the issue.

You have tagged your problem with Server 2003/2008.  If you are using Server 2003/2008, you should not be using Symantec Volume Snapshot Provider (VSP) because this is for Windows Server 2000 only.  Server 2003/2008 uses Microsoft VSS to do volume snapshots.

1) Uninstall the BE remote agent from the affected server

2) Push out the BE remote agent again to this server, but WITHOUT the AOFO option.

3) In your job to backup this server, for AOFO specifically select VSS.  Don't use automatic.

My mistake. Sorry for tagging the problem with windows 2003/2008. The issue is with windows 2000 server.

We have Symantec Endpoint Protection in our environment from years and we didn't face this issue any time.

Could you please let me how to exclude the scan on AOFO files / delete the lock on the active cache file.

You can try excluding *.vsp from your scan.

Backup job skipped some files .. what could be the reason and how to avoid that ? Below the log file exception section .

when a job completes with exception, al the remaining data is backed up and can be restored ..right ?

These appears to be temp files and the errors can be ignored.  You should be able to restore the rest of the files from the backup set.
