Dear All,

Please i have a backup of the system state of my computer and i'm trying to restore either the complete system state or just the active directory alone, but both are not successful.

Firstly i tried restoring the system on a computer i just installed Windows 2008 on but the  restore was just moved to a folder on my C drive.

Secondly i tried the active directory and its still not working.

I currently use Symantec Backup Exec 2012 pls can anyone help.

The procedure for restoring a DC is given in the Preparing for Disaster Recovery chapter in the Admin Guide.

You cannot redirect a System State restore and expect it to revover a system state - there are ways to redirect the system state resotore and this does result in a folder structure being recovered that more or less shows you what was in the system state, however this is just a file level restore and does not apply the system state to the OS - My guess is you managed to do some kind of redirected restore, by your description anyway

To restore a system state as a system state the server being resored to MUST have the same name as the original and resolve via DNS so that you do not have to use the redirection settings but can just go back to original locations.

Other than that please follow the suggestions made by others above.
