  • 1.  Activity Center Missing After Upgrade/Install of ITMS/CMS 7.5 (Manage / Computers)

    In the event anyone else runs into this issue as I did and had to call support.  Per support there is a sporadic issue with some upgrades/installations where the activity center (Manage / Computers) (Enhanced Console) is missing and navigating to Manage / Computers in the NS console takes you to the simple "Organizational Views and Groups" instead of the graphical activity center console page.

    Steps to Resolution:

    1. Run a right-click "repair" on the .msi in:  <install dir>\altiris\symantec\installation\manager\installs\altiris\altiris_activitycenter_7_5_x64.msi
    2. Test Console, if that did not fix it continue...
    3. Run a right-click "uninstall" on the .msi in:  <install dir>\altiris\symantec\installation\manager\installs\altiris\altiris_activitycenter_7_5_x64.msi
    4. Copy altiris_activitycenter_7_5_x64.msi to the desktop
    5. Run a CMD as Administrator
    6. CD desktop
    7. Run:  msiexec /i "altiris_activitycenter_7_5_x64.msi" skipaim=1
    8. Accept all defaults
    9. Test the Manage/Computers console view in the console.

    Per Support this seems to repair the console for a majority of users with this issue,

     

    Hope this helps save ppl time in their upgrade/install to 7.5

    I had the same problem installing 7.5 in my lab. Thanks for posting this information. One correction though, I found the MSI at INSTALLDIR\Symantec Installation Manager\Installs\Altiris\altiris_activitycenxxxxx.....msi.

    I too had this issue in my lab environment, from a fresh install, and this help me resolve the issue.  My process was a little different, because I have 7.5 HF1 installed.  I had to:

    1. Uninstall altiris_activitycenter_7_5_hf1_x64

    2. Uninstall altiris_activitycenter_7_5_x64

    3. Install altiris_activitycenter_7_5_x64

    4. Install altiris_activitycenter_7_5_hf1_x64.

    All using the process outlined above.

    Can somebody explain why this seems to happen on random occassions?

    It is not a new result as this could also happen in 7.1.

    That’s probably a question best answered by level 2/3 Support Engineer or Product Development. Level 1 support didn't know why it happens, they just know the fix and told me it randomly happens, at the time they did not know why. I would assume there are multiple factors, group policy user rights assignments, restrictions, UAC not properly disabled, custom registry imports/settings which affect the install, low bandwidth on install download, bad checksum on download that’s not error’ing out, etc… Hard for a company to plan for every possible windows install scenario.

    I've setup and configured 7.1 ~15 times for multiple companies and I’ve never seen this in 7.1 on any SP release.

    I actually thought this would have been resolved in the Activity Center HF1, but after installing that I had to go back and do what @ jpopik did.

    I am actually thinking it is something with our group policy settings affecting the installation. This happened on our Parent NS in out MGMT domain (PCI/HIPPA/NIST compliant), and on the Child NS in our Imaging domain (PCI/HIPPA compliant), but did not happen on the Child NS in our Corporate Domain (which the Corporate domain has a completely different set of domain and computer policies managed by the Corp Teams).

    It's an easy workaround so I have not looked too much into it.

    I reconn also it seems to have someinfluence from Policies..  Was not a slow download/broken CRC's, UAC/Registery issues.. That I know for sure on this site.

    So, Symantec... Can you provide a list of requirements looking at this part of the installation?
    It is not possible in larger/some organisations to request a server that is not infected ;-) with policies... 

    I will also make an idea on this ;-)
