  • 1.  Adding Apple USB to Ethernet Driver to WinPE Failed to Find Any Drivers to Add

I am trying to add a driver for an Apple USB to ethernet adapter.  It uses an Asix AX88772 driver.  I have the 32 bit Vista driver.  There is your usual .inf, .cat, and .sys files in the folder yet when trying to add the driver using the Boot Wizard I get the message Failed to import driver xxxx Failed to find any drivers to add.  I am not sure what to do next.  Other drivers install fine.

One assumption I am making is that the information in the inf file is not in the format that the Boot Wizard recognizes as either a network controller or a storage controller.  I am wondering if the Asix driver can be modified to make it work if indeed this is an issue.

Found this: I had a look at those drivers & the reason why GBW refuses to add them is because we scan the inf for PCI\VEN format & in usb nic inf files, the format is different. At the moment we only support PCI id based infs to be handled by GBW. from here: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/manually-add-usb-nic-driver

Anyone know if this has changed since this post from over 2 years ago?

I can't be the only person trying to image ultrabooks with no onboard wired nics.

AFAIK WinPE does not support USB connected NIC devices.  The quickest way of imaging ultrabooks with no wired NIC is to configure a USB stick to boot WinPE and put the image on the USB stick as well, so the whole build process runs from the stick.

I am able to image an ultrabook using WinPE installed on an external hard drive.  Unfortunately that does not give me the luxury that Ghost does and allow me to image 30 ultrabooks at one time.  Has the ability of the GBW changed or can it be changed to look for and include USB to ethernet drivers?

The limitation has nothing whatsoever to do with GBW as it is a limitation of WinPE, a Microsoft product.
