Adding the Catalogs and Data folders in a BackupExec selection list

Hello,

We would like to have a way of quickly setting up a new backup server if something happened to the one we currently use, without having to re-build the selection lists, sheduled jobs, and other settings from scratch. From what I found, it appears that the 2 most important folders to backup are Catalogs and Data in the Backup Exec program files ( http://insanelabs.com/misc/backup-exec-transfer-sc... ). We are using Backup Exec 10d on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.

I was wondering if we were going to run into locked files or other issues if we simply were to add

C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\Catalogs
and
C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\Data

to our main current selection list. This is the selection list that's in use for our daily differential, and weekly full backups. Has anyone tried that before? Is there a better way to achieve this goal?

No, it would not be a problem if you add the two folders to your selection list. All Catalogs except the one for which the backup is running will be backed up (No errors reported)
Also, the live database files - .mdf and .ldf will be skipped from the data folder, however the backup of BEDB (Backup happens everyday at 4 AM by default during Database maintenance) will be backed up. Again, no errors or warnings reported because of the live SQL db files being skipped.

From the data folder, exclude *.mdf and *.ldf from selection list, to get rid of exceptions. BEDB.bak would be good to recover database. So, these files are not needed.

I just found out that backupping

C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\Catalogs
and
C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\Data

might not be sufficient to be able to restore the selection lists on a new backup server. There seems to be ways in which one can extract a selection list to a file, but those are not viable solutions as they have to be performed manually. We need to have our current selection lists backed up all the time, we don't want to have to perform an action to back them up regularly. Aren't the selection lists simple files stored somwehere? This would make it simple.

Selection lists, job descriptions, schedules, etc, are all contained within the BEDB.  AFAIK, there is no way to export selections lists (something the user base has been asking for since v7.0 that I know of)

As long as you have the BEDB.BAK file you should be good
