Adding a computer to the domain after deploying a wim image

Created: 19 Oct 2012 • Updated: 22 Oct 2012 | 2 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

I am using a batch file to deploy a wim image using imagex. SMP 7.0

This works fine, after deployment I use a reboot to production job to restart the machine. However the problem is that additional tasks dont run after the reboot. The process I am trying to achieve is below and works to step 2.

1. Run batch file - Run diskpart, apply wim using imagex, run bcdboot

2. Reboot to production

3. Apply system configuration (The agent is installed within the image)

After the reboot the computer doesnt run the apply system configuration, it appears like a new machine in the console.

Is what I am trying to achieve possible? any pointers greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

John

Is it a sysprepped image? Did you use the "Prepare for image capture" task to create the image?

No I used my own sysprep and captured the wim with imagex.

I think I have found the problem, I have a batch file that runs at first boot which renames the machine to WS-<MAC ADDRESS>. If I remove the network cable after imaging and plug it in once sysprep is complete and the machine has been renamed the task sequence seems to continue. I have tested this once.

I am going to update my image and remove the rename script and see if that resolves the issue.

Thanks,
