  • 1.  Adding custom data fields on the asset input screen

    Hello everyone,

We have the ITMS Suite installed

I have a question regarding including custom data fields on the Asset input screen. We have the following information that we currently collect for all our assets (we include User information when asset is deployed):

    • AssetTag (sticker that we put on all our assets eg ABC1111)
    • EquipmentType (egDesktop)
    • EquipmentModel (eg. HP 6200)
    • EquipmentMake (eg. HP)
    • SerialNumber
    • ExonerationNumber(Tax exempt)
    • AssetStatus(Assigned, OutForRepair etc)

All these information is catered for in Asset Management except AssetTag and ExonerationNumber information.

From reading the forums on Symantec Connect, I found out that I can create a custom Data Class to cater for these information(Settings>Resource and Data Class Settings>Data Classes > new Editable Data Class).

My questions is,  how can I have these two fields included on the Asset Input screen? We would like to have these information on the asset input screen to be able to edit or even manually add a new asset into AMS. By creating the Editable Data Class, i understand that I can do a mass import of eg new asset information (AssetTag, EquipmentType etc). But if, for example, I just received 2 new laptops (sometimes occurs for specific departmental requests), I would like to give the option to our techniciens to manually add these asset information

Thank you in advance for you help,

    Hi Efyuze,

If you link this new created data class to the resource type needed (eg. Computer), then the ability to edit these additional fields should be automatically there in the asset input screen.

The link itself is set in the following location: Settings - All settings - Notification Server - Resource And Dataclass Settings - Resource Types - Asset Types - IT - Computer (if you want to add the fields to the computer resource type)

Then click the 'Add Data Classes' button on the bottom and browse to your newly created data class. Make sure to save changes when done.

Is this what you were missing?

    Hi Dawi,

thank you for your reply, i did that and was able to link my newly created data class eg  Computer (assetTag, ExonNum) to the Computer type Resource. I am now working on creating a view for each AssetType to only show the info that we want to capture for our assets.

I think I have to look up more info about creating views for a resource type (especially when linking the association information. But that would be another thread :-)

    thanks again !!
